EnderG60 03-10-2009, 10:37 PM Well its been along time coming but I have finally gotten a house and its time to upgrade from my 10 year old 58g. This will be a slow build as Im doing this while renovating the house and working full time so bear with me.
I have on order a custom marineland 300g peninsula with one overflow on the short end and 3 sides of starphire. Stuff will be as follows....
Tank:
72x36x27 penisula
Filter:
84x24x24 oceanic tank(150g of fuge and 50g of sump)
Lighting :
3x 400w halides in custom luminarc reflectors
4x39w T5HO's overdriven
Flow:
Tunze wavebox
1740 return pump
1" seaswirl on return
Resun15000 pump
Dart Closed loop with 6 eductors
Water storage:
two 275g storage tanks
And more stuff I cant remember that will pop up along the way.
Here is what I have so far.

Mr. Grouper Therapy was kind enough to donate this wonderful leaking oceanic 200g, and a broken glass cages 120 to the cause. After stripping it and beating the hell out of the 120 we had some baffels.

A bit of silicon and we get a 150g fuge, and 50g sump with 2" drains and 3/4" emergency overflows

Now I need to go back to home depot for more PVC and hopefully tomorrow I can do a leak test.
sailfish 03-10-2009, 10:45 PM Sweet! This will be a fun one to follow. I am not to sure about that guy in the pictures though.:) I want a peninsula tank some day. I am a little jealous.
Joe
Smoothie 03-11-2009, 1:48 AM Taggin along for inspirado
grouper therapy 03-11-2009, 8:42 AM Hey Joe I can mod your tank into a penisula. You see my glass fabricating skills!
Derek_S 03-11-2009, 8:50 AM That is a neat sump designt. I look forward to seeing it all come together.
Its sad to see that poor GC 120! I like those tanks, and would trade mine in a heartbeat for a rimless 120.

Ha at now we are even. I want whats in your tank:)
Hey Joe I can mod your tank into a penisula. You see my glass fabricating skills!
A hammer? Na if you really want to he can do it. He helped(read did most of the work) me reseal that 200g, cut down the baffles and bore out the drains to 2".
I cant wait to see what he does with the stand!
and derek , that 120 was the one in bobby's garage for a while with a broken bottom. Actually you might see my tank before I do as well.
weaglereefer 03-11-2009, 10:29 AM Wow! That's gonna be sweet. Did you get black silicone on the display tank?
grouper therapy 03-11-2009, 11:02 PM So did my silicone hold or do I need to load the dryvac and head that way?
glxtrix 03-11-2009, 11:46 PM comin along nice :)
fabbss 03-12-2009, 12:40 AM This is going to be a great build, great looking sump by the way.
Dakota9 03-12-2009, 5:45 AM wow! Was kindaa ho hum thread till I saw the sump/fuge........ Wow! That's craftsmanship! will continue to follow along!
jmaneyapanda 03-12-2009, 7:08 AM im not following what the 2" pipe "curls" are at the bottom.
BASSCYN 03-12-2009, 7:45 AM Thats quite a project.
Looks great!!!!
1mbrews8 03-12-2009, 7:53 AM im in...
EnderG60 03-12-2009, 11:13 AM Yes I got black silicon for the display tank.
and the sump is full of water right now and holding very well. Only had one small leak at a bulkhead which is fixed now. Ill check it again tonight.
The 2" pipes are drains to empty the fuge and sump if need be for water changes. I still need to connect them to the main drain line(pics of this soon as I do it) The one of the right is also the return pump intake(thus the two valves one drain one pump connection)
the curls are 1. so i can drain the tank lower then the top of the bulkhead(3" tall) and 2. so the pump intake doesnt suck air/bubbles.
the 3/4" pipes are the emergency overflows, so should the sump ever overfill it will simply empty the extra water right into the drain line.
I need to go back to home depot..again(this will be a recurring theme) for more PCV bits, and some more 2x4's to finish the storage tank deck and make the shelf/stand for the two 40g tanks and the skimmer.
EnderG60 03-14-2009, 1:51 PM got a bit of work done today.
Leak test. The bit of water is because I didnt glue the 3/4" stand pipes no big deal for now.
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_3990%20%28Medium%29.JPG
Moved the water lines for the sink, and installed the old kitchen faucet. Also finished the stand for the storage tanks.

The drain to the driveway.

The current mess:D
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_3993%20%28Medium%29.JPG
I have decided to rethink some of the stand/shelf layout some since I think I have make better use of the space. But I will have the RO unit installed and hopefully have the sink, and drain system done tomorrow.
Delloman 03-16-2009, 2:55 AM llooking really cool if you need help let me know i would love the hands on time so i am better prepared for my tank next month
EnderG60 03-19-2009, 9:43 PM Welp got the drain system done and it works great. Drained the 200g sump in about 3 minutes. Got the other stand built, and started plumbing the RO. Made the sink connections either to long or to short so I have to redo that, but its coming along.
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_3995%20%28Medium%29.JPG
Bit more work to do, then the fun of wiring starts.
Derek_S 03-19-2009, 9:48 PM Looking good. Get the tank deal straightened out yet? When is its ETA?
EnderG60 03-19-2009, 9:51 PM Supposedly it will show up next week, but we'll see.
grouper therapy 03-19-2009, 10:25 PM i better watch out your carpenter skills are looking good ,wife says hello
sailfish 03-19-2009, 10:46 PM Supposedly it will show up next week, but we'll see.
I said the same thing more than once hope you did not try to get yours from the same place I did in the beginning.
Looks good I wish I could do a water change that easy.
If you don't hurry I am going to frag you stag and sell it to pay for rent. JK.. I guess because I don't own it anymore it seems like it's growing faster. :)
Joe
grouper therapy 03-19-2009, 10:54 PM I'll keep that stag for Danny haha
EnderG60 03-20-2009, 7:33 AM Na it was a paperwork mixup that caused my delay. Supposedly I didnt sign the right copy of the custom order form(it was one page so im confused!) But whatever, the floor isnt even down yet so it would be in the garage anyway.
Dave, I may need you to hold some stuff for me, everything is overgrowing everything else in the 58g and ive already lost some nice stuff due to lack of room. Im trying to get the system up and running so I can move some of the corals into those 40g's untill the tank is up.
Joe if its growing you can hang on to it for a bit longer :) Speaking of which you never send me a pic of how that tort i gave you is doing. I for some reason mine turned a light blue with a hint of green. Not sure why but it sure does look good!
grouper therapy 03-24-2009, 11:05 PM Updates ??????
Ok, I am gonna stay away from the "large tanks" forum forever! Every time I come here I get jealous! I am really happy with my 20g, but I always dream about a huge tank! LOL
grouper therapy 04-01-2009, 5:57 PM Danny tanks here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111
EnderG60 04-07-2009, 12:09 PM yes the tank is in...well at the warehouse waiting for now.
After avoiding a major problem with a broken pipe(dropped the **** pump on it and broke the pipe to the valve for the pump) using a jigsaw, and a hammer and chisle I got water flowing.
I have 40g tanks running, water is heated and salted, and will have the skimmer going tonight. Also picked up 500ft of romex 12/3 and a shopping cart full of outlets, boxes and switches, and ordered a pile of relays and chips to start wiring and making the power and control systems.
Everything is running off a power strip and an extention cord for now. I need to get a light over the 40g tanks so i can move over all my frags and some colonies that are either getting buried by my engineer goby, or getting stung by my increasingly massive anemone.
Ill have update pics as soon as my brother returns my camera tonight...I think...
EnderG60 04-27-2009, 7:04 PM Well things have been going slow, since work has been horrifyingly busy and im in the final push to finish the house, but I got some work on the tank done, and my bro FINALLY returned the camera so...PICS
got some of the outlets and wiring, and started working on that.
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_5330%20%28Medium%29.JPG
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_5331%20%28Medium%29.JPG
5 Dedicated circuits, on a dedicated main breaker for the tank(and hot tub). Wired and ready to hook to the control box, which I am almost done with the wiring diagram for.
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_5333%20%28Medium%29.JPG
Bits, still need one more 3/4 flow accelerator.
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_5337%20%28Medium%29.JPG
Picked up 6 boxed of lace rock for the display.(man this is gonna look good)
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_5338%20%28Medium%29.JPG
Got the skimmer hooked up, but its taking ALOT of flow to power, so Im going to hook up the dart NW to this until I have time to build the new one.
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_5325%20%28Medium%29.JPG
Main Pump plumbing / System drain piping. Still need to install the check valve.
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_5328%20%28Medium%29.JPG
and IT LIVES!!!!...kinda
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_5324%20%28Medium%29.JPG
and then I went and got a bit more live rock...flat and branch stuff will be used in the main display, rest is just going to be fuge rock. Oh and the first coral...some GSP that was in my sump.
http://binary242.com/host/forum/bob/pics/tanksetup/IMG_5334%20%28Medium%29.JPG
Still lots to do, but its getting there. I plan to hang a halide over the 40's and start moving corals over soon though.
atreyu917 04-27-2009, 7:52 PM Wow, that is going to be one crazy system! I do love that lace rock. Where'd you get it?
DannyBradley 04-27-2009, 8:47 PM Wow, that is going to be one crazy system! I do love that lace rock. Where'd you get it?
It comes from Feller Stone. Most stores can order it for you. I used to sell the bejesus out of it at $1.99/lb when I did retail. It may be more expensive now, so ask for a quantity discount.
EnderG60 04-28-2009, 10:22 AM Yeah most LFS's can get it. I know SWC and keen reef can get it at or below $2 if you get enough of it.
Smoothie 04-28-2009, 10:56 AM Yeah it's good stuff. Just soak it and brush it off to get rid of the dirt, moss and little tough plants that may be on it.
Man I am loving this system build. Makes me wish even more I had a basement
EnderG60 04-28-2009, 11:06 AM thats what Mr. pressure washer is for :)
Smoothie 04-28-2009, 11:22 AM Nice!
sailfish 04-28-2009, 12:44 PM It is so heavy if it hits a bare bottom tank, well you know. I had a few pieces in my old tank. Always has nice shapes.
Looks good
Joe
