View Full Version : Defining ARC forum guidelines
sammy33 09-18-2004, 12:14 PM Any suggestions on guidelines for our disussion forum here on the ARC website?
Here are a couple of things I thought of and that were discussed at the Aug BOD meeting:
a sponsors forum with a board for each sponsor
a classifieds section for selling and trading among members
a BOD forum
These two sections (sponsors and classifieds) would be designated for these special purposes (buying, selling, trading, power buys).
The reef discussion forum would be designated for reef Q&A and questions about the club.
We also need to decide (vote?) on the nature of the BOD forum. We can set it up as public with read only for general members. The BOD members and appointed postion holders would be able to read and post in the BOD forum. This would reserve the BOD forum for club business and planning. Any personal messages could be delivered through PM's or email. Major discussions and decisions will take place at BOD meetings as usual.
Any thought, comments, suggestions?
phishschtick 09-18-2004, 1:25 PM Totally impressed. What a great way to communicate within our club. Thanks Again

I really like the idea of a "read only BOD Forum".
Sam you set it up so that is only accessible to ARC members and not just those who register on this ARC web site?
Thanks,
Bob

That is possible but would need to manually administered. Member coordinator (Sally) would need to set access for current members.
Ray1214 10-23-2004, 10:59 PM The only comment I want to make is that the Moderators, when and if they think something is going too far. Such as some of ugliness at TRT. We can elimate or block someone's account. I can only access this for short periods at night, and try as I might, I can try to be active in this forum.

mafiaman 10-30-2004, 8:22 AM Sammy create the forum, make it read only, then create a BoD group, give the group full access to the forum.
So as new people join they will be able to read only with out any extra administrtion, the only administration needed will be as the BoD changes or as apointees are assigned.
Ray, to talk about locking people out already because you disagree with there point is wrong.
Remember as strongly as you may feel about a point the other person feels just as strongly, The days of BoD members labeling people as pot stirers should and needs to come to an end.
myreef 10-30-2004, 1:25 PM Sounds good Sammy...
Pot stirrers are fine...we all know they are looking out for the interest of the club. All view points are welcome here...right or wrong, even if it is to support their own agenda.
Phantom Phish 10-30-2004, 3:05 PM Who would be the moderator(s) of this forum (and the entire club website for that matter)? Would it be the entire BOD, or just the current years president?
myreef 10-30-2004, 4:23 PM My feelings and my feelings only are the entire BOD as well as 1 to 2 general members...it is too large of a job for 1 individual.

That sounds reasonable to me.
I would also agree that we need to be very careful about preventing any club member in good standing from posting on the club website, or blocking anyone's account. I think we need to spell out exactly what kind of due process should occur, before anything like that could happen.
Maybe what we need is some sort of arbitration board, or "supreme court" if you will, to handle those kinds of issues. It seems the BOD has plenty on it's plate already, so I not sure we should just keep heaping extra duties on them. Maybe an appointed or elected committee of 3 or 4 people?
myreef 10-30-2004, 8:55 PM The only problem with that is can we find 3-4 additional people? I think it should fall on the BOD. Furthermore, since I am "assuming" the BOD forum will have read only options, it will be in the public to view any arbitration matters. Again, just my opinion.

You might be right, Andy. But I wonder if it's worth trying to find out if there's any support for something like that, or at least if there's enough support to pursue the idea any further.
I could volenteer to be a part time moderator or arbitraitor. I do not read the boards everyday but I do check in and read/participate in the various threads on a regular basis.
Harleyguy 11-11-2004, 4:26 AM I will volunteer. I'm on the web every night for 3-5 hours.
FutureInterest 02-21-2008, 4:21 PM Bump.

LorenK 02-21-2008, 4:48 PM Moving this to the Rants and Complaints forum.
J/K! :-)
Stroid 02-21-2008, 4:51 PM not really understanding the point of this bump?
Linda Lee 02-21-2008, 5:03 PM Bumping a 2004 thread?
I'm lost...
FutureInterest 02-21-2008, 5:11 PM Genius is rarely understood in its own era... j/k
Its just a random bump of one of the oldest threads on ARC. I felt that the work of some of the older members should be revisited once more.
Also and more importantly, it amused me to do so :). I am easily amused...

Linda Lee 02-21-2008, 5:24 PM I think it's a trick. Hidden somewhere in his post is a secret message. First one to break the code wins a puppy.
LorenK 02-21-2008, 5:37 PM It's actually an interesting thread.
Plus I see that Ray1214 just logged in so we are probably triggering emails to him :-)
Thanks to those who walked before us.

Hi, Ray!!! Jump back into the pool... the water is still great.
And, yes... thanks to all of our pioneers. The foundation was certainly well-laid.
