View Full Version : 150 Gal RR from "Glass Cages," good or bad?
Son of Adam 02-06-2009, 10:20 PM What is the word on the street Jack?
Is they :yuk: or is they  ,cuz i don't want to be:doh:...... MMMMKa?
I need a 150 gal tank!
jenn_jeffery 02-06-2009, 10:26 PM I've heard good and bad. I've seen 'bad'. A good many people I know who keep reptiles have tried them, some had great luck, some had tanks so crooked, they wouldn't hold a snake in. And when you get a 'bad' tank, you get bad customer service.
If they had good customer service, it'd be worth a shot, but they don't. Personally, I wouldn't trust it. Keep an eye on craigslist and the local classifieds, or just save up for a new tank so you get the warranty with it.
In other words, they're a :yuk:
ericmcj31 02-06-2009, 10:27 PM search some threads on here, there are several...Some have good results, others not so good. Basically, their customer service sucks and if you buy from them, you have to pretty much be comfortable w/ the condition it is when you pick it up (no guarantee). FWIW, check out someone local. I just found out that My Reef Creations makes them-and they have a pretty superior product. It is a good bit more, but think of what a leaky tank could cost you in damage to your home and not to mention loss of livestock/corals. I wanna upgrade one day (when we buy another house), and GC is a cheap option, but as of right now not one I wanna take. Im sure others have opinions, but just be aware of what you may be getting and inspect the tank well before agreeing to take it. Also, from what I hear, if you get kinda a standard type tank (no custom sizes), the tanks tend to be better quality as well... good luck!
ericmcj31 02-06-2009, 10:28 PM ...also, contact Raj. His screen name is Skriz on here, he sells for MRC if you're interested-he's an honest guy and won't steer ya wrong--check out other options as well-but personally, would pass on GC
Dakota9 02-06-2009, 10:39 PM Ouling really liked his GC tank. I ordered one, but ended up getting a refund because of the shoddy method of delivery they have. You have to meet them when ever they choose, on whatever day they choose, if you want it delivered on their truck. I'd planned to take the whole day off the day of my delivery because I'd heard they treat deliveries like drive by drug deals, just to have the truck driver call the day before delivery while I was at work wanting me to meet him right then across town. I told him I couldn't leave work, he's exact words were "we'll be back through next month, hopefully it'll work out better then"........ I got all my money refunded on the Am-Ex, but wasted a onth fooling with them.
Their stadard glass is alil greener than most, but hear the star-fire glass is wonderful.
If you have a fairly open schedule where you can have a 48 hour open window to meet for delivery at a moments notice, I'd say go for it, as long as its just a standard size tank....
Mockery 02-06-2009, 11:04 PM Check out oceallc they are in alabama. I hear they make pretty good tanks.

Yep saw a few pictures online. Pretty sweet.
grimreefer 02-06-2009, 11:25 PM I have heard a lot of positive and a little negative about Glass Cages. Me personally, I would feel confidently about them, enough to buy from them. In my personal opinion, I think they are a little messy with their seals but I think their tanks are okay. Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. :)
Seedless Reefer 02-07-2009, 12:03 AM I was thinking about the tanks because the prices are so good.
The delivery schedule is a little funky and it looks like for 2009 there is only one delivery to Atlanta some time in summer.
HellI would just make the 2-1/2 hour drive and say screw the shipping.
I would spend the extra dough on the overflows and starfire front panel.
WILLIAM1 02-07-2009, 2:50 AM Heres a link sent to me by someone a 150 gallon tank for about 550 bucks check them out they have very competitive prices and carry sarfire glass..

MrsMojo 02-07-2009, 12:16 PM I have a glass cages 300 gal that I got used but had never had water in it. When we filled it - it leaked - had to be fixed twice. No problems since then.
reefknight 02-07-2009, 12:55 PM Has anyone seen one of the Ocea tanks in person or knows of anyone who owns one? I am in the process of taking quotes on a new custom tank and am trying to shop around as much as possible. I have thought about a tank from Glass Cages, but when quoted out (about six months ago) I could actually get one cheaper from Miracles in Glass. I know that they have a stellar record as compared to Glass Cages. If I could save some cash though I would consider Ocea.
Thanks!
Son of Adam 02-07-2009, 4:48 PM Thank you for all the feed back!

ryanh487 02-07-2009, 6:54 PM my friend that maintains/installs aquariums just delivered a 110 gallon tank from GC last week. it was HEAVY, and he had to haul it up 2 flights of stairs. he got it on the stand, started filling it and when he got about 3" of water in the the front pane of glass split from one bottom corner to the opposite top corner

Huh? Could you repeat that in reverse?
DannyBradley 02-07-2009, 9:20 PM More times than not, you get what you pay for with Glass Cages. There's nothing worse than hearing a glass center brace on a 36" deep 400 gallon tank start making the *tink tink tink* sound of glass starting to break. Another Glass Cages success story.

Darren24 02-09-2009, 6:30 PM My Glass Cages tank is / was excellent. I will let you know about Ocea in about 2 weeks. :)
Son of Adam 02-23-2009, 12:15 AM I tried filling out a Ocea quote request for a 200g tank. No response. Called twice and left my cell number both times with no response. I think they are slack! I must sound like a poor SOB on the phone with no money. I bought a 200g Marineland deep. Happy as I could be.
Mockery 02-23-2009, 12:21 AM It took me a week to get ty on the phone! He is really slammed with orders. My tank won't be ready for about 4 weeks!
But i'm glad you found something that works!

I know the feeling, thought it was just me. I have sent an email and then saw the quote form and submitted one of those as well. I guess I'll cut him some slack as my tax refund isn't back yet, so no big deal. For those of you who have ordered tanks please post some photos when you recieve yours.
Thanks!
