View Full Version : 10 gallon fish
CmichaelB 01-26-2009, 4:42 PM I am 10 years old and just got a 10 gallon tank. I got live rock from MvM and it is amazing rock.
I'm wondering if I can put in 2 fire fish in my 10 gallon reef tank along with a urchin.:new:
CmichaelB 01-26-2009, 4:48 PM I also want a clown fish and a Pajama Cardnal in my 10 gallon tank.
andregarcia_73 01-27-2009, 12:46 PM 4 fish in a 10 g may be pushing it.What kind of filtration are you running and how long has the tank been running?
weaglereefer 01-27-2009, 12:48 PM If you get the clown to host a spot, you could probably put in one clown, one firefish, and one cardinal. My firefish stay within a 10" section of the tank up front, unless it's feeding time.
What kind of lighting do you have? If you're not planning on any corals, you could put in a pencil urchin or something. If you are planning corals you could go with a tuxedo urchin.
BTW, Geaux Saints!
I have two fire fish and only one really shows his self the other hides in the cave unless it's feeding time, then they both go nuts.
Here is a link to what it looks like currently.

CmichaelB 01-27-2009, 4:01 PM I just set it up this weekend and it needs to cycle. I'm just planning right now. My filtration is a HOB filter. I'm planning on a tuxedo urchin already! I have T5 lighting and will have corals.
War Eagle! Go Saints
I'm running an Aqua Clear 50 on mine with purigen, carbon, and the bio stuff. I also plumbed a 2.5g fuge on to the back. works great. though I think my nitrates(on an API test kit) are a little high but everything is fine, so I think it is off a little.
mopar9012 01-27-2009, 7:32 PM i had a firefish once. Dang thing never came out, so I took it back to the LFS store. Try trying to catch a fish that never comes out, but if theres one thing out there I can out smart, its a fish..haha
lax man 10 02-03-2009, 8:52 AM hey i think the fire fish is cool but i have heard they arnt the best
Seedless Reefer 02-03-2009, 9:00 AM Lets not forget that some of your water volume will be taken up by the rock and some more if you put in sand so you will not have a true 10 gallons of water in the tank.
I would only put 2 or 3 fish in the tank and I would make sure that they are kinda small and don't move around all day.
Thinking something like a clown goby, bi-color blenny, fire fish, a cardinal maybe.
Fish Scales2 02-03-2009, 9:08 AM 10 years old with your first saltwater tank, sweet.
Look up a rainfordi goby, clown goby and I think you might be able to a couple more fish that will stay under 2.5 inches. Good luck and just go slow.
Seedless Reefer 02-03-2009, 9:10 AM I'll tell you what would be sweet.....
A goby and pistol shrimp!
JessPete 02-03-2009, 10:12 AM Live Aquaria has a section under marine fish just for nano fish. That would let you look at pictures of all the fish that would be appropriate.
+11 for goby and pistol!
JessPete 02-03-2009, 10:14 AM doh +1 obviously
Kirru 02-03-2009, 10:20 AM I had two fire fish before one disappeared mysteriously. they were always out swimming around. only ate frozen foods but thats ok. also had a dragon goby in there, juvi, and he was active. now i have a 40 breeder with a shrimp and one fire fish, kinda sucks but what can ya do when your broke.
