View Full Version : Marc's 240 Reef
coral_hog 01-19-2009, 11:37 PM I'm new to ARC so I thought I'd introduce myself and my tank.. The first post is of my equipment. following the equipment I will post the tank itself. The only equipment not shown is the light setup which consists of two 400 Watt dual end 10K Metal Halides housed in lumenarc fixtures, An Ozotech ozone unit with drier and Milwaukee controllers for ORP and PH. The pictures aren't the greatest, but they are sufficient for now.. I'll post clearer pictures at a later date.
coral_hog 01-19-2009, 11:45 PM And now the tank itself.. I tried to capture as much as possible but unfortunately I missed a few animals. Fish load is as follows..
7 yellow coris wrasse
2 4 lines
2 6 lines
1 Sohal
1 Vlamingii
1 Mimic
1 Purple Tang
1 Lawnmower
1 strange Goby which I will create one more post to show
and 1 White Cheek Tang which is in ICU for another week before being introduced.

coral_hog 01-19-2009, 11:53 PM Last....
I will be moving in a month or two so this tank will be broken down and sold for little to nothing... the tank has scratches so could be best used for a refugium.. I'll give the stand with the tank... The tank below will be the new house for my children... 309 gal acrylic cube... I'm working on the stand design now... I'll post pics of the new setup once the move takes place.
coral_hog 01-19-2009, 11:56 PM OK.. the goby did not come thru on the last post... reposting.....
atreyu917 01-19-2009, 11:56 PM Wow that is a beautiful tank!
atreyu917 01-19-2009, 11:56 PM Oh, and welcome!
Steve 01-19-2009, 11:59 PM Wow pretty cool! Those coris wrasses are cool!
Nice clam! I think I may have to make a trip out to see your tank when I go up to Raj's castle.
Tsunami 01-20-2009, 12:12 AM How big is the clam?? Wow!!
1mbrews8 01-20-2009, 12:27 AM are those all duncans in the 3rd livestock pic? nice tank!
coral_hog 01-20-2009, 12:33 AM How big is the clam?? Wow!!
The clam is somewhere around 14 inches I believe...
coral_hog 01-20-2009, 12:39 AM Yes, the third pic shows duncans... There are actually three different color variations... Purple, Green and a beige-ish color... I started out with just a couple of heads and then about two months later they exploded with growth....
I am hoping that my dendro's will do the same. I'm starting to see new heads appear, but still not at the rate I would like to see.
Smoothie 01-20-2009, 12:43 AM Love the yellow wrasses! Did you add them one by one or all at the same time?
atreyu917 01-20-2009, 12:51 AM I had to go look back at the size of that clam. That is insane! It's gorgeous.
coral_hog 01-20-2009, 12:57 AM Love the yellow wrasses! Did you add them one by one or all at the same time?
I added one.. then had a crazy idea to add another... when I got to nemo fish, Aaron had six of them in stock so I told him to give me all of them... I was worried because I've heard that you couldn't have multiple wrasses mixed with 4 line wrasses and 6 line wrasses, but the 6 yellows, the 2 4 line wrasses and the 2 4 line wrasses all get along nicely...
My Sohal tang is the only thug causing problems these days... he's constantly trying to put a bruising on my purple tang.
atreyu917 01-20-2009, 1:02 AM So are the yellow coris way nicer than the red coris I'm guessing?
Sorry if that's a stupid question!

I had a red coris years ago before I started keeping clams.. when I introduced my first clam, the red coris turned it into lunch... a day later the coris was back at the LFS..

But seriously.. to answer your question, yellow coris wrasses are good for keeping parasites and pest snails under control. They are great in a clam tanks...
The red coris wasn't a good experience for me so I avoid them.
Smoothie 01-20-2009, 1:30 AM Sweet. Strength in numbers against the lined wrasses I guess. Also heard adding the lined wrasses last helps with mixing multiple types.
atreyu917 01-20-2009, 1:39 AM I definitely have heard the red coris are little *******s. They're just so freakin pretty!
coral_hog 01-20-2009, 1:57 AM I also had a twin spot wrasse... that was another costly mistake..
These days, I admire them from a'far....
Actually, I am finished with fish... Aaron at Nemo Fish called me yesterday to let me know that he could get a nice sized black tang for a great price, but I had to turn him down... I'm really happy with my tank right now... all my fish are healthy and my corals are thriving.... Currently, Id like to run into some purple monti digitalia.. but I rarely see any monti in stores these days.
Derek_S 01-20-2009, 9:07 AM What was your experience with the twinspot?
BTW, that cube looks awfully familiar. Does it have a huge bulkhead hole in it?

I gambled with a twinspot.. I had six maxima clams that one by one got flipped and eaten from the bottom.
Regarding the tank.. I got it from CapBay just before they closed. I wanted that huge tank in front of the door but Salt Water City claimed it..
Hey.. If you have contact info for Debrah.. Ask her to contact me... I've been trying to get in touch with her.
