View Full Version : SPS Colony - Bali Green Slimer
RedEDGE2k1 01-07-2009, 8:29 PM I bought a Bali Green Slimer colony from the LFS (I forget which one) that has been growing like a weed. While mounting the original colony I broke off one of its branches that was about 4" long at the time. So, I mounted it to a piece of live rock and placed it in my tank along with the full colony. Since that time the 4" branch has grown into a full colony of its own, about the size of a softball and growing fast. It has grown from a twig to the colony you see below since this past summer (2008). It's almost reaching out of my tank, so I'm letting the smaller colony go. Any takers? I'm asking $75 and that includes the softball-sized piece of live rock it is mounted to.
Original mother colony (soccer ball size) with the smaller colony for sale in the back left:

Interested in any trades?
RedEDGE2k1 01-07-2009, 8:32 PM Here's a shot with actinics only:

Chemically_Balanced 01-07-2009, 8:51 PM That's a great deal but it doesn't really look like a slimmer to me. More like a Stary night. Either way it's still a great deal.
^^^^^^^That's what I was thinking. Nice coral, though.
glxtrix 01-07-2009, 9:07 PM Yup, that's a stary night.
jhutto 01-07-2009, 9:30 PM Lee should know that is his expertise. He had a beautiful colony.
glxtrix 01-07-2009, 11:32 PM :) I'm sure that's part of mine lol. I need to get a frag back one of these days.
Hellfire 01-07-2009, 11:57 PM I'm interested. Could I stop by tomorrow to check it out? Pm me some info. Thanks!
Tyler
Acroholic 01-08-2009, 12:04 AM Lee,
My Starry Night has grown a lot since I got my frag from you. I know it will be one of the more trimmed pieces I own.
RedEDGE2k1 01-08-2009, 9:12 AM It's a starry night? Weird...I've never heard of that type, and I can't find any information on google about them.
Anywho, the green acro is still available. :)
I'd also be willing to trade for a different color colony, anything besides green/brown!
Steve 01-08-2009, 10:28 AM Green acro is probably the best name for it at this point.
The way it glows under actinics is what gives it away.

glxtrix 01-08-2009, 1:21 PM The stary night that I got originally came from Scientific Corals in a group buy we did a long time ago here in the club. Not sure if thats an actual name of the coral, but that's what I've been calling it for the at least 3 or 4 years I've owned that particular species. It is an extremely fast growing coral and is strikingly beautiful under actinics. Here are some of my pics of the colony I use to have:

Derek_S 01-08-2009, 1:40 PM and boy has that coral gotten 'around'. hehehe
glxtrix 01-08-2009, 1:45 PM Yup, sure has. I need to get a piece back one of these days from someone. I miss it too much :( In all actuality, it was one of my favorites.
FutureInterest 01-08-2009, 1:55 PM I believe the scientific name is Acropora microthalma for the "Starry night" acro. It's not uncommon in the wild and is imported regularly so Red could verywell have gotten a "Starry night" type acro from anywhere. The scientific coral "starry night" tends to have brighter polyps though from what I've seen.
Still a decent price on a colony. :)
RedEDGE2k1 01-08-2009, 5:08 PM Colony is still available :)
RedEDGE2k1 01-10-2009, 1:05 PM I've had a couple of people commit to buying this, but no one has followed through or called when they said they'd call to pick it up.
Still available, but please, don't bother me if you're not sure. :)
glxtrix 01-10-2009, 3:57 PM That's a shame people have done that....it's truly a beautiful coral and at a great price. Good luck.
rostato 01-11-2009, 9:17 AM How hard is this species to take care of? YOu make it seem like it is easy. Where in ATL are you?
RedEDGE2k1 01-11-2009, 12:28 PM This coral has been growing like a weed since I bought it, I haven't been doing anything special. My other SPS corals have been growing much much slower. I think this is just a truly fast growing species.
I live on Ashford Dunwoody Road, near the intersection of Ashford Dunwoody & Johnson Ferry.
If anyone is interested give me a call - (404) 409-6504

glxtrix 01-11-2009, 3:58 PM It is as easy as everyone says. Just give it med to high light....more towards high. And good flow and it'll do amazing things.
