So I get home yesterday and I've lost a juvenille porci puffer, I immediately checked my salinity, PH, Nitrite, Amon., Nitrate, Temps... Every single thing was perfect ?? No spikes, no biohazards, nothing.. I did a 20g water change Sunday and other than that everything has been normal.

Here's a little bit about my tank and some other information....

I have a fish only 75g, 125 superskimmer, emp 400, maxi 1200, gen 500.
Bird Wrasse 6" (looks like he's been in battle, has some white marks on his head and sides), Foxface Rabbit 4", 2-southern fusiliers 3"ea, and the puffer. I took out 2 large hermits because they killed a kole tang I had. I have 2 stars in there one sand sifter and one chip.

My question is: Do you guys think the Bird Wrasse would take down a puffer?

Everything is always possible in the fish world it seems. How long have you had the porc? More often than not most predators die from nutritional defficiences and fatty liver disease after they have been established. He seems a little youg to die from a fatty liver but it could have been nutritional from what he was fed and the quality of it before you got him.

Gotcha. Well, he ate silver sides, krill, and some flakes... I fed him once /sometimes twice a day... only had him for about 2 weeks.

I don't think that the Bird Wrasse took the puffer down but I think that the Puffer might have been dying and the wrasse was picking at him and got poked by some spikes.

**** Eric, sorry to hear about that! Sometimes its the luck of the draw. From what I have read it is possible that the wrasse took out the PP, they are typically a very territorial breed and should be added lastly to a well established tank. Did the PP have signs of fighting?

This is probably the hardest thing about the hobby indeed... the unkown... the PP definitely had some marks on top his head but who knows if that was nibbles after the fact ya know. These Fusiliers are pretty agressive too and fearless.
