I'm preparing to set up a 29 gallon biocube reef tank. What would be the best temperature to target for my aquarium? I would like to include a few catalina gobys but I'm afraid that they wouldn't do well in the warmer water.
What do the experienced think?

reef? 77-82 IMO.

ussually on a reef its as low as you can keep it without turning off your lights.

I believe Catalina Gobies are colder water (i.e. high 60s - low 70s) fish.

You will need a chiller to keep Catalinas. They require a temp in the high 60s

yeah, they might not work in a reef, if you want them bad, might have to forgo a full reef.

Does anyone have a Solana 34 gallon set up and running? If so, which light package did you choose and would you purchase the same again?

I just set up a Cardiff 24. That's exactly the same as the Solana but with a bow front. I have the 150w HQI disco ball. So far I'm happy with it but its only been up for four days. In my 65 degree room the tank hits 80 at the end of a 12 hour photo period so I'm sensing a chiller in my future come summer.

The pump on the skimmer just has a plain impeller not a needle wheel. You should be able to do a mesh mod for improved performance. I just drilled six tiny holes in each impeller wheel. I can't say that that improved things since I have no reference point.

At my New Year's party last night it got a lot of admiration but then again there was a lot of wine involved. Only one person managed to get their sleeve wet when trying to see what a metal halide light bulb looks like up close.

Good luck.

Thanks. I've been using that avatar for years for various things. I started it out as an example of the response I want to see from my employees when I ask them to do something. Occasionally I switch to Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein.
