Well I happened to be back in Athens on the right night! I looked at my nem and noticed it was deflated. It usually doesn't deflate so I thought it was kind of weird when I noticed the clowns biting at the rock above the anemone where they usually lay eggs. I knew they had to be spawning and sure enough the female is HUGE with eggs and even has a little tube like thing sticking down from her! Im gonna stay up tonight to watch it after lights out but just wanted to share with the other reef geeks out there!

dawg-

just turn the lights down low and put on some Barry Manilow--throw a shot of wine in the tank and let nature take its course! lol

so this tube like thing hanging down is maybe an inch or so long and just dangling underneath her? My female clown had this on Saturday and I had no idea what it was? Maybe the same you have?

Thats so cool! Are you going to raise them? I bought my clowns from Puplegorilla and they were laying eggs in his tank but have not layed eggs in my tank yet. When they do I would like to raise the clowns. Keep us posted!

Next time look to see if the belly is swollen btw the little thingy and the ventral fin. If so then shes preggers!

Nah I dont plan on raising them. I am about to switch tanks around and dont have any food or tank set up to raise them. Maybe in a few years ill try to raise clowns but probably not any time soon.

Well they just started laying eggs! Man is it cool to watch. The female goes over the patch depositing the eggs and the male swims all over them right after her fanning water on them.

the "thing" is called an ovipositor, and is the tube that actually lays the eggs. Gary Parr took this sweet pic once.

Seriously! That's how they fertilize them. I read that somewhere. I'll go see if I can find it on google.
