I've been wanting a new tat for a while, but I have some very specific ideas and would like to have a design drawn up. Anyone know of a good tattoo design artist that you would recommend?

Let me know when you find a good tattoo artist. I'm looking for one also. I think it's time for my last tattoo. I've been considering going back to my hometown and letting someone from the Miami Ink crew do my last tattoo.

Definatly go back to Miami Ink. They are so good. Don't they have there own TV show?

You'll probably have to sell your car to get a tat from the Miami Ink crew nowadays.

Yeah thats true. I forgot about that. Maybe even the house!

The cost is high, but not much higher than what the top notch tattoo artist already charge. The big thing with Miami Ink is getting in the door. You have to have an appointment, which is something you don't see on the show. They make it seem like you can just walk in the door and get a tattoo.

I dont know this of the miami shop, but I know many shops require a few to several artists to be working walk ins rather than appointments. This way they dont lose business.

I dont actually know what they would charge, but I have always found that once a business gets some notariety like this, they economocially increase their profit margin. Supply and demand, baby!

So, let me addend what Ms. K originally asked. Anyone know where you can find a quality tatto artist in Atlanta?

There is a guy named Dusty in woodstock that does mine. He is great and cheaper than most. He has a shop off hwy 92. His dad is Monkey Man like one of the best tatoo guys in the state but way overpriced lol. His son Dusty is IMO better anyways (because he does newer stuff) Monkey Man is old school. Me and the girl are going to fly down to Miami this year to get Miami Ink to do some for us. Its addicting lol kinda like this other hobby I know:dance:

I have seen some awesome work done by the owner of physcho tattoo. He did an underwater scene on his wife's arm that was amazing (and he is a diver so he knows his fish) if that is what you are looking for

Psycho tattoo is pretty expensive and ive never felt completely comfortable in there for some reason.Ive had quite a bit of work done at Epic tattoo in woodstock on hwy 5.Its been awhile since ive been in there though,im not sure if the same guys are there or not.Really need to decide what style of tattoo you want and then decide who you want to do it.Tattoo conventions are great places to find artists.

My girlfriend just got back from Miami Ink in December. She went with her best friend who got a Tattoo from the chick on the show (Kate?). She had to apply online to get on the show to have her tattoo done. It cost quite a bit, and the flight and stay down there was expensive as well. I guess if thats your thing and you want to be on T.V. do it. I can think of a lot of other stuff I would like to spend money on. You have to be picked out of all the applicants to get on the show and have your tattoo, its not like a regular studio, just a show. This was weird to me when she told me, I thought it was like a regular shop and you just show up, but no.

I agree. Most of the artists are super moody and the shop personnel aren't particularly friendly. They don't go out of there way to make you feel comfortable with their process and for the prices they charge it should be a better experience. This shop is more for young people getting a typical tattoo rather than a kick *** custom job. They have talented people, but the place just reaks of young chics getting a standard lower back tribal tattoo.

craig foster at skinwerks is great, thats my best man to choose.

brandon bond at all or nothing is very very very good, but hard to get time with and expensive.

if your up for a short drive, go to carrolton and check out craig, or browse his site. skinwerks.com

Ive got about 20+ hours of tattoo work and know several of the artists personally. They all have thier specialties so let me know what you want and I can tell you the guy thats best for it. As far as Psycho Tattoo there is also a guy named Miami at shop 3 and he too like Deano is a diver and specializes in underwater scenes. Plus Im sure I can talk most of the guys into giving you a good deal ;)

The cost just to sit for a Tattoo is $200 and it goes up from there. You have to go on a weekday if you want one of the 5 on the show to do a tattoo for you, they do not work on the weekends. I hear the guys that they have on the weekends suck and even if it is not one of the guys from the show, it is still $200 to sit. If I am going to pay that type of money it is going to be done by Kat or Garver.

You can just walk in, I did... But you are not going to get one of the main people... You are going to get one of the "weekend" guys.

Ha! I saw this thread and said to myself that I definitely had to recommend Craig!!! :)

I got my tattoo back when he worked at Timeless. I have at least 7 friends that have gotten numerous tattoos by him (including my cousin's whole back) and know at least another 20 acquaintaces with amazing tattoos as well. Quality work, clean environment, affordable pricing, and always a huge pleasure. Every time I see Craig, it's like a party! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I have pictures, if interested. ;)

I'm just curious - how much is "pricey" for a tat? (obviously I have none myself)

Custom work usually runs around $125-150 an hour.

It is expensive work, but you have to remember...

1. it is permanent
2. it is one-of-a kind

I'm looking into getting my third tattoo and I think I'm gonna go with Cap Szumski at timeless tattoo. He does incredible work. UNfortunately my old artist moved to florida, oh well. I really like Cap's black and grey works. However I'm sure hes crazy expensive, but I don't mind paying for quality.I also keep reading about Phil Colvin at Liberty Tattoo.

I have a few and my last ones have been at All or Nothing Tattoo by either Brannon Bond or Dave Tedder. Both do incredible work. I believe Melissa, she used to be on TRT and is local to Alph, had hers done on her shoulder by Brannon and it was a clown swimming in an ananeme*(I cant spell) and it was awesome coming down her shoulder on her upper arm.

I highly recommend All or Nothing

I'd hate to burst anyone's bubble, the show Miami Ink is totally a "made for TV" production, those artists don't even work there.... Kat and Chris Garver have a studio in Cali which I've been to (they're awesome).. we are pretty lucky here in atlanta to have some amazing artists-- I had a half-sleeve (of my clownfish) done by Brandon Bond at All or Nothing (200 bucks an hour though) and I'm having my other arm done by Deano Cook which is in my opinion one of the best artists in the country www.deanostudios.com we also have Cap Szumski and Tony Olivias, Dave Tedder, Sean Herman...... when it comes to tattoos it's definetly worth the investment-- good tattoos aren't cheap, cheap tattoos aren't good.....

Oh, and my name is Michelle-- but I get called Melissa alot :)

I Am Very Up To Date With Tattoo Artists In The Area. If You Want Quality Work, Price Should Not Be A Consideration - Forget The Guys From Miami Ink - Go To Deano Cook "owner Of Psycho Tattoo" Or Got To "all Or Nothing Tattoos In Smyrna. Trust Me

Cap Szumski, owner of Timeless tattoo, is world renound for his black and grey shading. The price is of NO importance to me, as it is PERMANANT! Cap did mine. It was worth setting an appointment (read- 1-2 months) and paying top dollar for expert work. :D

Well, I just got my first tattoo by Eric at Sacred Heart (http://www.sacredhearttattoo.com/). I was very impressed by the service, price, and sanitation, and I'm proud of my tat: (it's still a bit puffy)
