Ok well at my school we have to write a persuasive paper to our parents to try to persuade them into letting us have somthing that they have already said no to. Of course I thought of the most outrageous thing possible... A 300g reef tank with a 100g sump and around a 200g frag tank all attached to eachother to make the water paramiters really stable. This will have to be in the basment. Well my teacher had me get the reasons why not to get it from my parents so that we would have an easier time writing the paper. My mom only came up with 5 reasons why not to do it.
1. Its expencive to set up.
2. It will take up too much time to mantain the tank.
3. It will make it hard to go on vacations.
4. Its expensive to maintain.
5. What will dad and I get out of it?
For the first reason I replied... Well you were the one who wanted to spend $1,000 on one chair (it killed me when she brought that home. All I could think of was that the money that she used to buy the chair could of paid for a whole new tank set up!) that would just sit there. SO I'm sure that you would not be to ashamed to spend $10,000 + + + on a tank.
2. I replied that it would take alot of work but it would be tottally worth it in the end. And I also replied that I have way to much free time so the tank would not do anyharm to school work of anything
3. I replied That I can train someone in the neiborhood or I could hire someone to take care of the tank. Mabey one of you arc members that live close would not mind takeing care of it... .
4. I replied that t would not be as expensive after we have all the equiptment and fish and corals in. It would still be expensive but all of our neighbors (Iour neighbors and our family have an unspoken compitition for who can have a cooler house) would be sooooo jelouse!
5. my mom does yoga so wouldn't doing yoga infrount of a giant reef tank be awsome? Itwould be very relaxing to hear the flowing water and see all the fishies swimming around. My dad would also have bragging rights with the neighbors!
That is kinda what my argument is sofar. And don't worry. We will work our way up. I'm gonna get the 58g up and running, make sure all goes well for a year, and then start upgrading. My plan is to go from my 30g to a 58g to a 100g (that tank would eventually become the sump and it's enhabitents will be moved to either the frag tank or the reef tank. Then wee would get the 200g frag tank. Then setup the 300g reef tank. and then combine them by the 100g sump. We plan to take this EXTREMLY slow. I'm looking for advice on how to further convince my parents and I'm also looking for advice on large tank setups. Of course all of these tanks will only prepare me for my dream tank... a 25,000g saltwater pool. (unfortunently I think that tank will only exist in my dreams... )
Thanks, Diane
