View Full Version : Suggestions for a 30L needed!
Amici 10-30-2008, 10:15 PM Well I just picked up an AWESOME 30L that is starfire and rimless. I need some ideas on what to do with this tank. My ideas so far are:
-A bunch of damsels and nothing else (some have amazing colors)
-Dwarf Lion with a couple other compatible fish
-Goby and blenny tank
-Caribbean Biotope with fish and inverts from there with gorgonians and fans
Any other ideas or suggestions?
andregarcia_73 10-30-2008, 10:17 PM I had a damsel tank and it was cool but there was usually a larger dominant one that beat the other ones up a lot and or kept them small by limiting their food intake through intimidation. I like your last idea best.
johnr2604 10-30-2008, 10:24 PM Zoa Tank
nickskains 10-31-2008, 12:48 AM Do a zoa / shroom tank with damsels! lol

Barbara 10-31-2008, 9:23 AM I haven't had any luck with Dwarf Lions. I'd avoid that option if it were me.
I do think the zoa/shroom idea is a good one though. I have a tank upstairs that is all zoas. Unfortunately I have neglected it, so it's not real pretty right now, but when it was at it's peak, it was gorgeous with just zoas and a Frogspawn with clowns.
Barbara, I thought you said not to ever tell anyone you have that tank?
Barbara 10-31-2008, 10:47 AM Steve, you just made me laugh so hard! Yeah, don't tell. I just eluded to how bad it had gone; I didn't tell "the whole truth".....
Amici 10-31-2008, 10:59 AM A friend of mine suggested an LPS/Softie/Zoa tank with pipe fish and gobies. I like the idea.....
Barbara 10-31-2008, 11:02 AM Yeah, you could make it real cool. A 20 or 30G is soooooo manageable! Especially compared to the bigger tanks we keep. It would be really easy and fun to keep a mini reef with some really special small stuff in it.
CGill311 10-31-2008, 12:30 PM You could do a scorpion tank like Melissa had. Fluffy was awesome!
CGill311 10-31-2008, 12:36 PM There are some really cool leaf fish and anglers on live aquaria right now.

andregarcia_73 10-31-2008, 12:39 PM Those fish are awesome.
Scubagirl12 10-31-2008, 2:52 PM i would personally go with a goby/blenny tank. i love watching those little fish
Charlie,
I love my shrimp goby tanks. I have a pair of yashia with a pistol and they are great to watch. I'm moving them to the recently vacated 70G along with my mandarin and a pair of red-banded High-fin shimp gobies. I'm also going to do a partially planted tank with some nice macro algaes and eel grasses. Once it's establised I'll add a couple of pipefish. Should be a very cool tank when I am done... that 30gL would be a great size for a tank light that.
FutureInterest 10-31-2008, 4:33 PM I think a BTA tank would be really cool with flames, GBTA, and RBTAs. BW clownfish would be a nice contrast.

Agreed. Combo BTA!
Would add a mated pair of clowns also....
Oh I love all the ideas guys! Keep them coming!
Bob how many goby/shrimp pairs can you do in the tank? I am not to familiar with mixing pistols and things like that but would love to incorporate the pipes and a few other gobies and blennies.
I hadnt even thought of leaf fish either but those would be better than the dwarf lion and a pair would be awesome.

Already have a plan in the works for this actually :) Except its gonna be 30 cube.
jcusmarine 10-31-2008, 9:18 PM I think you should have a live rock tank.
Fiji, Caribbean, South Pacific, Tonga, Bali, Vanuata.
Then throw in a couple of Aiptasia to finish off.....
Shweeet.
Haha but you just described my 90! Its lookin like I will do a goby shrimp pair, with a pair of clowns and a few pipes. Then Im gonna put really colorful montis in there with a 250w HQI phoenix over it.
Freshwater planted tank! I'm thinking of setting one up.
No! Do a saltwater planted tank! Check out this tank... i am in awe! Very cool.

Good choice
Amici 11-06-2008, 10:02 PM Done. I think thats going to be the model for my tank. Bob, how many gobies can you fit in a tank that size and do you think I can get away with a couple pairs of pistol/gobies?
Not sure.. I am just starting down that path too with my 70G. The footprint isn't great since it's only 36" but I'll work with what I have.... keep me posted on what you do. As of now, I have the pair of White Ray and a pair of Red-banded High Fin gobies. Looking at adding a pair of Tangora gobies with several pistol shrimps.
Amici 11-06-2008, 11:24 PM Im gonna do a school of bangaii as well I think. Its gonna be a caribbean coral with lots of other fish. I am going to have to figure out the filtration for it......
Sweet! Make sure it's a tank raised school!
Amici 11-06-2008, 11:30 PM Haha Ok. So there is this guy named Bob who was raising some. :) You think I could get a school from him once they got big enough?
i had a few set backs but there are a couple others around that are raising them. I am sure we can find you some!
Amici 11-06-2008, 11:34 PM Awesome, Shot me a pm of any local breeders you know of if you dont mind. I would love to find some captive breed orchids or something.
Steve 11-06-2008, 11:55 PM I think you should do a shark tank.
