I have gotten a lot of inquiries about the new NeoZeo Method from Brightwell. Brightwell Aquatics has released their new NeoZeo Media (http://www.aquabuys.com/page/aqb/PROD/ba_neoz1000) and also an 18 page manual describing the complete NeoZeo method for reef tanks. This method includes dosing probiotics (microbes and a carbon source) as well as the use of a Zeolite media in a reactor or canister filter. The method also covers dosing schedules with certain supplements that are known to encourage great coral coloration and increase the health of reef aquaria.

NeoZeo Manual (http://www.aquabuys.com/neozeo-method.pdf)

We also now have just about the complete line of Brigtwell Aquatics (http://www.aquabuys.com/page/aqb/CTGY/t1a) products. Please contact me with any questions about the NeoZeo method or the Brightwell products.

Great to hear. Does the zeolite need to be run in canister or can you run it in a sock?

Doug,
My apologies for not answering this sooner as I had to do a bit of research. :)

As we discussed the suggested flow rate for the Zeolite media is around 50-100GPH. The media works best with active pass-through of the the aquarium water through the media. The zeo stones are somewhat like a sponge with tiny holes that allow the bio-process of nutrient conversion to take place.

I would think that using a sock or large mesh filter bag with the zeo stones placed in your sump would be less effective. You would have a passive flow over the zeo stones and in most cases would not be able to adjust the flow to the optimum 50-100 gph. OTOH this may actually be a good way to start up the zeo system especially on a tank that has higher levels of NO3 and PO4 as the nutrient reduction would potentially be less aggressive.

I am using an old Eheim 2026 canister for my zeo reactor. I am also working on putting together a zeo rector kit that includes the media reactor, adjustable flow pump, a flow meter and the hookup tubing for under $100. I got the parts in this week and I am in the process of testing the system. We should have it available soon.

I think this NeoZeo system is going to work well I have seen people on RC that have had major change for the good in there tanks. I have only been running it for 2 days and I am already seeing better polip extention on my acro's. Thanks Sam for all the advice, going to try to document with pics what it does. Wish you had that valve the other day , spent an hour at Home Depot to find the right stuff.
