View Full Version : cannot post pics! drag & drop not there

Barbara

All of a sudden I can no longer add pictures/images to my posts? Is anybody else having this problem? I go in to "reply to post" and I can no longer see the box to "add image". I'm totally not computer savvy, and I have no clue why this happened. It must have happened within the last couple of days, b/c I've posted pictures recently.

Help????

Uhh, someone was messing around with the modules trying to get quick reply to work again, maybe it was turned off for a while, is it back?

As the title states, drag & drop feature has been disabled apparently except for people with access to moderator, as Barbara also has the same problem, but Linda does not.

I don't ever drag/drop, preferring instead to attach by using the *insert image* icon. This keeps attachments from cluttering up my account. Linking to a picture rather than uploading it seems like it wouldn't burden the ARC site quite as much. Also, uploaded (dragged/dropped) pictures are blocked by my filters here @ work.

I'll take a look...but for clarity, Linda is not a moderator.

I checked and the tool is set to be globally available. I don't think I did anything that night that would effect this but anything is possible.

For those who are having issues, can you check your User CP (top left of screen) under Edit Options, is your file upload set to Basic or Drag/Drop?

It could be that when I disabled it, it set everyone by default to Basic.

And in my post above, I *inserted* Brad Pitt rather than *dragging and dropping* him.

Although the latter doesn't seem to be such a bad idea after what he did to Jennifer....

my user options are set to drag & drop.

I also went back to basic, and then retried to set to drag & drop.

It is still not working!

Mine was set to drag and drop. I don't even see the option to "add files" anymore, so I can't insert the pic. I tried to drag and drop, and my window changed from ARC to the C:drive with some sort of "activeX" message. I enabled the ActiveX controls and still can't drag and drop pics and still don't see the "add files" option on my ARC profile when I try to reply.

For those that are having the issue....do you see any of the icons? Like the hyperlink, quote or font icons?

Also, can you go into your user cp (edit options) and make sure you have something beyond the basic editor selected?

Barbara

Loren, I have 2 different computers I use to access the site. On my work laptop, I can get the "attach files" box to come up when I'm in drag and drop mode, but when I'm using my home desktop, I have to change the setting back to "Basic" in order to get the "attach files" box to show up. I do see the icons on each setting, but the attach image icon doesn't work on my home computer when my edit options are set to "drag and drop". The weird thing is that it was working about a week or so ago, and then it just stopped working. In the box where "attach files" usually allows, there's no box, but only some text saying that I have to reload the page and activate "activeX" controls on the computer. However, when I go into the internet options, I can see that activeX is already activated.

Do you all know how to drop the cache on your browsers? I've tried with a few test accounts that match the typical user profile and I'm not having issues...leads me to believe it's a browser side issue.

If you don't know, let me know what browser you have and I'll give you instructions.

mysterybox

I've already done that. I deleted all.
I am by no means a pc guru, just a guess? Is it possble that the active x installation is corrupted? This way it things it's installed, but doesn't work. How can I delete just that particular one? Then I can reinstall it. I don't want to delete all active x items, though. But than again, if it's happening on multiple pc's?

I'm sure anyone who was online when I disabled the feature during my testing for the submit issue has the issue.

On my browser, it is using a java plugin (I'm on a mac). To refresh it, I disabled Java, loaded a page with the feature. The icons were gone. I then re-enabled Java and reloaded the page. The plugin reloaded correctly.

I'll have to get my work laptop and try it out...I don't really use windows at home.

I'm going to do some more research on the vbulletin forum for this mod and see if others have had this issue. I understand what's causing it but I'd rather find if the mod creator has packaged a more up-to-date cab file with the current active-x control.

LorenK

The drag and drop facilitates uploading the picture to ARC instead of storing it yourself...completely different.

I've uploaded the most current version of the ImageUploader cab file. If it does not automatically reload, try loading it by clicking on the following URL:

I think that should work. Let me know if not.

Loren found me... :) I wrote this mod as a special thing for the ARC. It ended up being too difficult to diagnose why it wasn't working on 500 different computers, so there's only a little bit of support now.

The software exists on the ARC server- there's nothing to download. If you use Internet Explorer, click the cab file link above. If you use Firefox, then it should happen automatically.

Do make sure that you have the drag and drop option enabled in your options in your control panel...

For IE, I would have thought you would be using the active-x control version. You didn't disable active-x controls, did you?

I got this error message from firefox? I'm not familar with that browser.

In order to accept POST request originating from this domain, the admin must add this domain to the whitelist.

so I think it's 1 of 4 things, as something is preventing it from being installed on my pc:

1. The sercurity issue with aurigma will not let new installs happen and your cab fix only fixes current users. If that's the case, any new members will be out of luck, too.

2. One of my settings is not letting it install, but I've checked & rechecked & rechecked..........

3. It thinks it's already installed on my pc, but it's only a piece of it left. Although I think it's a clean uninstall, I can't be sure

4. or who the ______ knows?

you are talking about drag & drop??

If it's just words in place of the drag & drop active x as as stated above, I would put it back on basic mode, delete your cookies (I-E, I guess?), make sure IE options allows or prompts active x, sign back in, change options back to drag & drop, then go to any advanced post. If that doesn't work, pm Loren or MOJO.

What worked for me is that I went to smugmug and signed up for free 30 day trial. I clicked on where it stated install required or something like that. It installed a newer version. I came back here and then ARC installed their older version automatically.

Testing...I had the same problem as listed above on my new computer (Windows Vista). After fighting with it a bit, I took Ralph's way out and signed up for a free test of SmugMug. Mine doesn't work either. I had the option off in user cp and have been having to use the old school upload. :) I tried to turn it back on and all it does is tell me to wait for an active X script to load, but it never does.

I wouldn't think so. A few months ago, Loren was updating something/fixing something and bam! Drag & drop stopped working for certain people.

I can't remember, but it's something to do with a security fix on our version that it's not allowed to update. anyway, better ask Loren on that one. However, they are updating new software sometime..................

In the meantime, there are a few fixes for it, including the one I used.
