I just recently purchased my first saltwater tank system ever and I am concerned about power outages etc in the future. I have the Elos system mini which is a 20g setup. What battery backup systems are you all using? A typical small UPS system like you would setup on a desktop computer?

thanks again!!

Are you looking for a battey backupo system or a generator system? Just for a short power out, I use the pentax b-11 air pumps. I run two of them and they are powered by d batteries. They are enough to run air bubbles in the tank pretty furiously for about 4-6 hours. Anything over that and I have a ac/dc power convertor that I clip to the battery terminals in my vehicle and run a power cord to the tank. Ive never had to go beyond any of these, however there are others that have a much more elaborate system set up.

1) battery backup air hose
2) APC smart 750 (just to buy me time-return only ,mag 3)
3) 3000 watt generator
4) 2 separate circuits, so 1/2 is on one circuit & 1/2 is on the other

Thanks folks, I would assume since this is only a 20g system I dont believe I need a generator type setup since we dont have hardly any lengthy power outages. I guess I am looking for something that could last 5-10hrs.

You can run a very small powerhead for that long with the right ups

i have split my larger system across 7 power circuits. i have limited the number of GFI but do use an earthing strip. I have redundant hardware for th main pumps and import life support systems. i have battery backup airpumps which last forever. like 2 days.
i have also a 5.5KVA generator in the wings waiting.

i tried the ups idea and it worked ok. not a long term solution unless you have a generator to back it up.
