View Full Version : Quick reply box
The quick reply box never works for me on this site, and I always forget that. I have to copy it to the clipboard, click Reply, wait for the new window, paste it in, and submit.
Any suggestions? I'm using Firefox, if that matters.
ankur1113 08-15-2008, 4:56 PM I got same problem, I have firefox 3.0. Which version are you using.
Mine is 3.0.1
Ack, I just did it again! If I could simply turn off the option to even see the quick reply box, that would be great. Then I wouldn't be so quick to use it, and would choose to click Reply every time.
ankur1113 08-15-2008, 5:04 PM Well I dont think that is possible but you might be able to go back to older version of firefox, that might fix the problem.
roundman 08-15-2008, 5:06 PM I could never get it to work with foxfire. I finally went to using windows internet explorer for this site only.
tebriel 08-15-2008, 5:06 PM If you click on Go Advanced while it hangs (happens to me everyone once in a while when I forget to use the superior browser (Safari, no, don't argue with me, no point :-D ) then I hit Go Advanced and it saves my text and opens the advanced dialog box.

Yea I do the samething now. I need to try out Safari and see if it any better.
tebriel 08-15-2008, 5:13 PM Works a lot better for me, plus I like it because everything in the interface is where I thought it should be back when I used IE/Firefox. It's not the fastest in some tests, nor the safest in some tests, but I haven't come across a website I couldn't use properly and I love the way it's configured. That's why I use Safari, even if it doesn't have the expansion capabilities of Firefox, which I never used when I had it anyways.

this trick works for me too. One of my computers is a FF2 and quick reply works fine but the other has FF3 and quick reply does not work. (both linux versions, not sure if that matters).

I do the same thing, just less hassle for me in the long run :)
washowi 08-15-2008, 10:45 PM I have been using Firefox for 2 years here.. No issues..but mine is version 2.0.0.16
Not sure it has not updated...
DannyBradley 08-16-2008, 12:22 AM Forget Firefox. Use Opera Web Browser. It's the one the Wii adopted. Be sure to try out the mouse gestures for surfing. I've been using it for years I haven't found a better browser. It's easy on system resources. Firefox seems to get more and more resource hungry with every release.
http://www.opera.com/
Everynow and then I'll find something that does not support it. Internet Explorer quickly fills that need.
Derek_S 08-16-2008, 12:33 AM I use seamonkey. It works fine for me except when I use special characters like percent and pound. Weird.
If it makes anyone feel better, I have to do the same thing about 30% of the time. I've searched, and can't find a reason for it, and can't find a fix anywhere. I could disable the quick reply if everyone wanted (although I'd really rather find a fix).
no way! I love the quick reply, even when it's not working, the "go advanced" fix works every time...so, no biggie.
Maybe we can get someone with real web skills to fix the issue ;)
Sure - I'll pass that on to the powers that be!
Just turn it off for little ol' me. :D
mysterybox 08-16-2008, 2:59 AM quick reply works like 75% of the time, when it doesn't, I just hit advanced.
Like NOW!
DannyBradley 08-16-2008, 9:02 AM I've had it not work twice out of my 1000+ posts.
Bleedingthought 08-16-2008, 12:26 PM Same issue here. Used to not do that, though.
It hasn't worked for me 100% of the time.
George 08-16-2008, 5:37 PM There's an issue with older versions of vBulletin forum software and Firefox 3.0 on some of the routines in their AJAX code. It affects the double-clicking of a forum icon to mark the forum read as well as the "Mark This Forum Read" menu item under the "Forum Tools" within a forum. I imagine the same library issue may affect the quick reply box as well.
I don't have the problem on forums I read that are versions 3.6.7 and 3.7.0 and 3.7.2 or in IE.
LorenK 08-16-2008, 8:03 PM I've fixed some of the problems but not all. The HTML, due to mods and templates, are slightly non compliant with regards to the validation rules. It's just extremely tedious to find them.
George 08-17-2008, 1:48 AM Thanks for your dilligence, Loren. I'm well aware of what a PITA it is to chase down code issues. :)
LorenK 08-20-2008, 9:31 PM Not much progress but a quicker work around than copy/paste.
If you click "Post Quick Reply" and your wheels spin, click "Go Advanced" then submit from that page.
I know it's not perfect, but a bit better.
