View Full Version : Mods must give reason for editing posts
I have seen one mod in particular edit multiple posts recently and then they edited one of mine today. I am not quite sure what they changed or what rule I broke to warrant the change. I would like to know why it was edited so I would like to suggest that whenever a mod edits a post that is not their own, they simply give a reason at the time of the edit that is available. If this is not "viable" for some strange reason then I think they should send a PM so the member with a "I edited your post and here is why." I sent a message to the mod and dont want to call them out but its something that I have seen as a consistent thing and its a bit of an odd feeling to see someone edited what you wrote when you dont remember well enough what you wrote to see the change.
Also, on a side note, can we have Mufret added to the mods list as well? Last I looked he wasnt on the list but had mod privileges.
Thanks!

I'm just guessing that the edited post to which you're referring was the one appearing in a sponosor's forum in which someone posted the link to another sponsor's forum. The initial post was edited to remove the link, but the link was already quoted in several responses so it was still visible in the thread. A second moderator came in after and rightfully deleted the link from those response quotes, thus taking the link out of the thread altogether.
Mike Ufret is the Sponsor Coordinator, giving him the admin rights to edit/modify sponsor forums.
Different coordinators have admin rights to specific areas. For instance, as Librarian, I can edit/modify the Library Forum, but that doesn't make me a moderator per se since I can't touch other areas.

Don't mind if they add me to the list but I only mod the Sponsor Forum, as Linda stated. I was preoccupied when I was directed to the thread and only edited the original post (didn't notice that it had been quoted) so, luckily, someone backed me up to remove the other link.
LorenK 08-15-2008, 11:00 AM It was just bad timing on your post. I had isolated the posts that I felt broke the forum guideline and moved them (with a note). Another mod moved yours since you had quoted it before I moved them and posted your response after I moved it.
At times, I will PM a member but typically I just add a note in the forum since this is what Chris typically does.
It takes me between 5-10 minutes to isolate posts and move them to a new thread. It could be quicker, but I don't want to make any mistakes and lose a post. To write a polite PM on top of that, especially when I'm doing this in between tasks at work or down time at home, sometimes is not feasible. I do try to make it clear and polite when I do move something.
This is of course different than other sites that simply delete the post or overwrite with a warning.
I think Raj and Chris are pretty consistent in commenting on a thread as to why its moved.
I don't think we want to add Mike as a mod since he will end up getting messages/complaints that are outside of his domain (Sponsors).
Anyway, hopefully no more comments are required on this one.
Amici 08-15-2008, 11:45 AM My post being edited is what pushed me to start the thread, however there are a few other posts that were edited on other parts of the side outside of sponsors (not by mufret) that first kinda made me wonder why they werent giving a reason for editing a post. It just seems to me like common courtesy would be to say: Removal of link or something of that nature when it occurs. It seems to me that the mods might get a better view from others if they see that all these edited posts were just to remove a link when it just looks like the mods are editing the heck out of others posts a few times in a thread.
Im not mad and as I have discussed this with Loren and the mod involved, I realized I was a little intense on here and I am trying to calm it down a bit. I just dont see why the mods cant fill in that little box for the reason they edited it.
As far as Mufret, I completely understand him not being listed as a mod and figured it was just an oversight. However shouldnt he be on the club leaders page?!?! The sponsor coordinator is a pretty vital role and it seems like if people knew who to contact when sponsor info is wrong or something along those lines then it might help out a bit so that the normal mods arent catching flack for some BS about not updating a sponsors info or banner soon enough. That make sense?

Agree. This has been suggested in the past.

Oh sorry! Didnt know I was beating a dead horse. What was the outcome last time? I wasnt aware it was discussed.
Linda Lee 08-15-2008, 12:28 PM It's not a dead horse, actually.
I think Mike just got overlooked, although he's mentioned on this thread (http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11579).
Should be an easy fix.
Amberjack 08-28-2008, 11:02 AM I agree! I had one edited/removed. Don't know what I did wrong. I've seen other post that were much worse than mine here.
FutureInterest 09-14-2008, 3:36 PM I've seen some posts disappear as well without any rationale given. Is this how things operate around here? :boo:

Reason is given. You just have to read it. If you have a question about something, you can pm any mod. Rest assured, we don't want to remove or edit anything. We only do so when we feel we must.
Jin-what are you up to..I sense a plot  My spidey senses are tingling :)

Jin- I think that comment that was made in that thread probably would have been best handled in a pm. I should have never even quoted it. I apologize.
FutureInterest 09-16-2008, 12:35 AM It was an interesting thread and the board has been pretty stale for quite some time. I would've liked to have seen it progress just for my own amusement. :)
Your senses are off Raj, I'm not going to go green goblin on you... today :).
