View Full Version : LFS map anyone willing to tackle?
kwl1763 12-04-2006, 1:55 PM Anyone have the skills to tackle doing something like this. I would be glad to help but have no idea how to do it. I know there is always the concern about "advertising" non-sponsers, etc but I think this handles it well.

Zanski 12-04-2006, 3:35 PM link doesnt work for me
kappaknight 12-04-2006, 3:44 PM You can probably make it more interactive, and easier with Google maps.
It's on my list of things to add to the website.... I should be freed up after I step down from my presidential duties...
Lifestudent 12-04-2006, 9:40 PM I know that Chris has a sponsor map on his radar.
Here's one example of a sponsor/non-sponsor map (the green arrows are sponsors while the red dots are other LFSs) that I like. When you mouse over or click on the icon, it opens a balloon with the store name and address: http://www.masm.org/gmap/
However, I also like the table format that kwl1763 found.
Whatever you do Chris, I know it be cool! :shades:
Thanks in advance!
Bob
glxtrix 12-05-2006, 3:07 PM I mean if its something thats as simple as a plain map with ticks on it and info below, I could easily do that, but if ya'll want some kind of interactive deal, that would be beyond my knowledge. That way chris you dont have so much on your back.
Wineman 12-05-2006, 4:35 PM At work we plot our properties with google earth, give that a try.
This is what I have so far for the member map:
http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/vbgooglemapme.php
(click on the blue icon in Stone Mountain - that's me)
I can do something about the sponsors fairly quickly- I'll try to look at it soon...
glxtrix 12-05-2006, 5:43 PM thats awesome.
That is very cool Chris! Now that is what I call interactive
RazMatic 12-05-2006, 10:37 PM I am getting an error "Can't open XML file" :o when I try to submit information.
CGill311 12-05-2006, 10:59 PM That's going to be really great when it's up and running with member and sponsor locations. Very cool stuff!
I am getting an error "Can't open XML file" :o when I try to submit information.
Umm... that's because it's not working yet. I just posted it to give a preview...
kappaknight 12-10-2006, 4:20 PM Simple and filled with data should do. I don't think we need it super fancy... (yet)
Would anyone be willing to put together a list of the sponsor names, addresses, and gps coordinates in a certain format for me? If so, I should be able to get a sponsor map up by the weekend. All the addresses are on the sponsor page, and the gps coordinates can be looked up using google maps.
Let me know. I'll supply the format then.
kwl1763 12-14-2006, 1:54 PM I'll do it. Let me know the format and we'll git r' dun
Thanks, kwl.
I need the data in the following format (simple XML). I did FS&M and CBA as examples. No need to get as precise as I did with the coordinates - that's just the anal-retentive in me coming out.
Might want to check out this thread on TRT (http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54289) for a complete list of stores in GA.
<sponsors>
<sponsor name="Fish Store and More"
address="3145 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30305"
lat="33.83992640444381"
lng="-84.37730669975281"
sponsor="yes"/>
<sponsor name="Cappuccino Bay Aquarium"
address="2145 Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30062"
lat="33.970929336604165"
lng="-84.48975563049316"
sponsor="yes"/>
</sponsors>
where can you find the coordinates?
tsciarini 12-14-2006, 9:15 PM ...and the gps coordinates can be looked up using google maps.
^^
and some day I need to learn how to read... :doh:
Showtime305 12-14-2006, 11:27 PM This is going to be pretty sweet.
kwl1763 12-15-2006, 9:52 AM I'll get it knocked out this weekend!
I've got it all written, and Tony is working on some data (with a new XML format now).
Here's the BETA version: http://www.atlantareefclub.org/beta/sponsormap.html
No, not all stores are on there- just something to look at and give feedback on. I have to have all the sites on there before I make it live. Obviously, it'll be in the same site layout as everything else when it's done.
Lifestudent 12-19-2006, 8:57 PM Chris, will the mouse-over-bubble contain their store hours or phone #?
Thanks!
Bob
It can contain whatever we want. That info is already in the threads on the linked forum. If we added it to the map, it'd just mean that there's two places to keep things updated. But it may be best...
flyingarmy 12-20-2006, 8:10 AM kwl1763 if you need any help with the map..let me know! A simple webpage can be created with a Atlanta overlay map with pop up ballons for each location with addy, hours, numbers, etc. It would be a handy tool!
Already done- see http://www.atlantareefclub.org/beta/sponsormap.html
I'll make it live later today. Thanks to Tony for putting all the info together.
Kevin 12-20-2006, 10:28 AM Looks great Chris
flyingarmy 12-20-2006, 10:48 AM Wow..excellent job! Very helpful information!
SShindell 12-20-2006, 12:24 PM Very cool...
Lifestudent 12-21-2006, 7:33 AM Very cool... Bravo! :clap: :yes: :clap:
Does anyone want to provide the data for all of the non-sponsor stores in GA? I could add them to the map with a different icon, and provide basic details.
I thought it'd also be cool to have a picture of the store associated with them, but that'd require either someone taking a picture or getting a picture from the store. Any takers?
CGill311 12-21-2006, 10:51 AM One glitch I've noticed on my comp for the sponsor map, is sometimes the balloons will expand to 5X their normal height for no apparent reason. It's pretty annoying, as it shifts the map around on you. Is this easy to fix?
Yeah, it does that for me as well sometimes. I haven't found a fix yet....
tsciarini 12-21-2006, 12:38 PM Once this is complete we should put it up somewhere on the main page and/or at the top of the sponsor page (http://atlantareefclub.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7) for easy access :)
... or sticky it somewhere.
kwl1763 12-30-2006, 11:07 AM Sorry for the delay guys I actually did it while travelling to see my parents but then their internet was down so I was offline for 2 weeks. Sorry for the letdown and big thanks for getting it done! It looks awesome!
