I just bought my Elos from Einstein Aquatics last saturday and am very excited to be starting this new hobby of mine. The tank, sump and stand is all put together however I am waiting on the arrival of the e-lite from Italy as it should arrive next week at which point I will start my new adventure!!

Great site!!

So tell me your going to stock with AAA grade acans, LE montis and SPS! So how are you going to set it up? Any ideas?

I was looking at those pictures last night. What wattage are the e-lites? I think if you offer free beer several us may come over to watch you put it up and together. You, know just to keep you company.......

LOL Doug. Since this is my first ever tank of any kind I am still researching what I want to do. I know I want 2 clown fish and 1 cardinal and likely one other smaller fish. I do want to do corals but not sure of what else. I want lots of color.
The price tage for the tank (sump, pumps, skimmer)and stand is $1699 plus tax so it was 1817 out the door. Still have to get a heater, moonlights, rock, sand, CUC, fish, etc.

The e-lite specs are 80-100 lumens if I remember correctly and its supposed to be able to grow anything you can throw its way. The light unit itself is 750 and its fanless.

Holy crap where have I been? I have never seen that e-lite but it is incredibly sleek. What type of light is it, incandecent??

Wow wow wow I'd like to see a 90+ gal rimless elos with those across the top. I need a cold shower.

The way they are set up is neat too. I kinda like that 'minimal' and spacy feel, but I'd be over it in a few days, pcking in as much crap as possible.

Well you are surely stepping into the hobby running lol Best of luck to you, I envy that system, makes me drool. The e lites are pretty slick, i think they put out mid 4k lumens without the heat which is why they dont have a fan. Ive contemplated selling off a lot of stuff to purchase one of these. You can program the lights to have a thunderstorm effect lol, Elos stuff is always reguarded as top of the line, glad you were able to convince the wife :) If you ever want to sell it. . .DIBS does everyone see that i just called DIBS on it, rules of the web its mine lol. j.p. anyways good luck cant wait to see the progress, throw up some pics of you actually system and everything. Take lots of pics trust me you will get a lot of followers on this thread. If you ever need help lmk im not to far from canton and id love to see it in person.

I went by to see Chris today and drool on his tanks again. The E-Lites are LED.

Elos is really setting the standard for high end equipment as well as test kits and additives. We are lucky that we have access to these products on a local level.

ace - thanks alot, I will certainly have lots of questions since this is my first ever system like this. Where did you get the info about programming the light?

The light is programmed through the software that i believe it comes with, and it is supposed to be very in depth, ive read a lot about these tanks bc well as i mentioned i have greatly contemplated buying one. I guess we will see how much i win or lose in Vegas next month lol.

Getting close to that time to start adding my CUC. I also had Chris @ EA place an order for 2 picasso clowns!! I am getting so excited!!

My cleaning crew will consist of this:
7 astrea snails
4 blueleg hermits
3 scarlet reef hermits
7 nassarius snails
1 cleaner shrimp

Well the CUC went in the tank saturday night about 10pm. I did my first water change thursday which was 4 gallons. Right before we put the CUC in we did the water test using the Elos test kits and all 4 of my reading were PERFECT!! I was so excited!

Everything is going good with my CUC, the cleaner shrimp loves to hide on the inside of the cave and only comes out for about 2 seconds then retreats. I think in a few more days hopefully he will be out and about more so we can watch him. the hermits and snails are all over the place and very very active!! My Astrea snails haven't even moved since being put in the tank, is this normal for them to take this long to get acclamaited?

very nice... is there room in the stand for a Ca reactor if you decided to add one later?? Also I noticed that your temp was 80.7... does the tank run worm or is that what you have your heater set at? The reason I ask is I would have thought that with LEDs and low power use the Elos has the temp would have been lower... or is your room worm? Can we get a picture of the tank with just the moon light on? I'm thinking of adding one of those lights to my ESM. Aslo let me know when you want to add something else, I might be able to come up with a frag or two for the new guy ;)

Thanks. The tank stays between 79-81.5 degrees. The light has been running for 12hrs (8:30am-8:30pm) but I have turned it back to 7hrs as of today. The room the tank sits in stays right around 78 degrees as it gets the sun all day and has a ton of windows in the room. I dont even have a heater on probably wont need that until winter. I have turned the LED off one time for over 24hrs and the temp only dropped .5 degrees. You can hold your hand right under the light and not get burned at all!!

I will get a picture with just the moon light as well not sure how well it will turn out but I will try.

Thanks for the offer on the frags as well :D

I just test my Mg levels and they are over 1900. This kit must be off; I will talk to Chris and bring my Mg kit by his place next week so he can use the kit to see if I am an idiot or not.

My other results are below:
Temp - 81.2
SG - 1.025
pH - 8.3
Nitrite - .01/.02
Nitrate - 5
Amonia - .05/.5
Ca - 350 (just dosed after this test)
Mg - 1600
Kh - 9.5 (19 drops to turn to a yellow color, according the Elos kit its .5 per drop)

I know the Kh is high just need to figure out exactly how bad this is at this time.

My amonia is up for the first time as well.

todd03blown
09-12-2008, 11:04 PM
I did clean my tank glass about 2hrs before my test and there was alot of alage on it and my cleaner shrimp also molted so could that have an affect on my high amonia readings?

Mine is the KH expert line test. The card says 1 drop = .5KH. I wonder if there is a regular line and its different then the expert line??

I just read the paper instructions and they say 1 drop = 1degree of hardness which means 20 drops would we 20!! Now I am really confused since the card says one thing and the paper instructions say another. I will talk to chris as well.

Wow, me and my buddy have been talking about that for like a month now...Have you ever seen anyone do that in their tank? I think it would look so sweet.

Yeah, it was used in the aquascaping video that was posted like a month ago. The Elos catalog has the same idea in it with freshwater. I think it would look really nice. I've put my gsp in the little path down the center of my rockwork and am trying to get it to grow, but it's not staying put, it keeps floating away.

Hmm...a field of GSP, I must have this.

If I could ever get it to stay put, I would have one. Toothpicks, a frag plug, nor a piece of LR could keep this stuff from moving across the tank. I think someone is moving it while I'm at work :-p

I think that renegade GSP has it's mind set on coming to my tank. LOL

Todd, that tank sucks. You need to rid yourself of it. I can dispose of it for you. LOL Man those ELOS are just beautiful. Very very nice.

Finally took some more pictures of my corals and fish in my Mini; these are a month later from the last shots. Still trying to get a picture of my orange spotted goby but he is being shy today. These are all from my Sony cyber-shot 6mp point and shot camera. Not to bad for finally getting some settings changed on the camera after trial and error!!

Just a warning! Be carefull with those yellow polyps. They grow fast and are brutal on other corals. I am in the process of wiping them out in my tank.

They kill just about everything. IMO, It is best to keep them isolated or get rid of them completely.

My last 2 fish additions to my tank.

I added the Orange spotted goby about 2 weeks ago with a pistol shrimp however the pistol is still MIA at this time.

My last addition that I added yesterday is a flame angel. I got all of my fish from Chris at EA.

well my pistol shrimp is alive, he just poked his head out of the hole where the goby's picture was taken above!!! After further looking in the hole I can see where he has made a big hole in the sand for their burrow!!

Now I just want him to come out more and be visible for us to see as he is so brightly colored!!
