View Full Version : we need a widget! mysterybox 06-19-2008, 8:26 AM Why don't we have a widget, so Iphone & mac users can save it to their desktop? mojo 06-19-2008, 10:08 AM Save what to their desktop? Sorry- I work in an all Microsoft and unix world at the moment, so you may have to post some examples... LorenK 06-19-2008, 10:55 AM Funny, I've learning objective-c and cocoa in my ubiquitous spare time...what are you looking for? glxtrix 06-19-2008, 11:07 AM I just have the ARC site linked on my phone. Curious as to what a widget would do. KRB 06-19-2008, 11:16 AM maybe the widget could have defineable parameters to track the last 10 new posts, or be limited to the last 10 FS posts, etc. Crew 06-19-2008, 3:25 PM you can have widgets on windows also... I have one for the braves, my stocks, the time, weather, and battery life mojo 06-19-2008, 3:28 PM Apparently I need a widget to tell me what a widget is... :) Skriz 06-19-2008, 3:47 PM Apparently I need a widget to tell me what a widget is... :) me too! At first I thought this thread was about a wicket..as in from cricket! RaisingTwo2006 06-19-2008, 5:19 PM I have widgets for the weather, breaking news, and a slideshow of my pics.. :) I agree, one for the arc would be good.. tebriel 06-19-2008, 5:25 PM maybe just a seriously cut down version of the new posts page that we could bookmark? Just the last 10 new posts or so...I'd link that to my home screen on my iPhone... jcusmarine 06-19-2008, 5:37 PM Windows Vista Sidebar & Mac Widgets would be cool, but to display what information? New threads, or new threads within a certain Forum are the only ones that I can think of.... mysterybox 06-19-2008, 10:10 PM sorry, I was talking about webclips, NOT widgets! (that would be cool, too) However, every website I save to my Iphone desktop, a cool ICON appears, that is, except ours. http://images.apple.com/support/iphone/images/icon_iphone_phone.png (http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/phone/) http://images.apple.com/support/iphone/images/icon_iphone_internet.png (http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/internet/) http://images.apple.com/iphone/home/images/featurette_gps20080609.png http://images.apple.com/iphone/features/images/fn-maps20080609.png Web Clips Add Web Clips for your favorite websites to the Home screen for fast access. Web Clips appear as icons, which you can arrange however you want on the Home screen http://www.apple.com/iphone/appstore/ Linda Lee 06-20-2008, 3:36 PM http://www.atlantareefclub.org/images/ARCLogo_med.gif<------ a cool Web Clip mojo 06-20-2008, 3:51 PM Created. Someone with an iphone will have to tell me if it works, though. Linda Lee 06-20-2008, 4:39 PM Darn. Now I have another reason to get an iPhone! Patrick214 06-20-2008, 5:00 PM It works with the Iphone. mysterybox 06-20-2008, 8:57 PM it works! Thanks! Looks good, too! Crew 06-21-2008, 5:19 AM a widget is an application on your desktop that is constantly running to do something specific... examples Weather Widget - constantly updates the weather information in your area Stock Widget - constantly updates your stock information Slide Show Widget - constantly shows a slide show of photos you pick etc etc it just sits on your desktop like an icon would but bigger.. KRB 06-21-2008, 9:58 AM So, can anyone here make a widget? I think many people would like to have one like discussed above to track new posts, or latest FS posts, etc. mojo 06-21-2008, 10:01 AM I still don't know in what this 'widget' is. I know what it is in a general context, but not specifically what people are asking for. Everyone is only saying "it'd be great if it'd to this as well...", but I without an example, a link that describes it, or something else, it's impossible to even know what everyone is asking for. It's the equivalent of saying to your mechanic "I need a widget in my engine that monitors the fuel"... jmaneyapanda 06-21-2008, 10:50 AM I still don't know in what this 'widget' is. Its a device, that when you get up to a velocity of 88 MPH and add 1.21 gigawatts will allow time travel......I think. Either that, or its what I use for my awesome photography skills. In Windows they are called gadgets. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/sidebargadgets.mspx In Macs they are widgets http://www.apple.com/macosx/developertools/dashcode.html jmaneyapanda 06-21-2008, 11:06 AM In Windows they are called gadgets. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/sidebargadgets.mspx In Macs they are widgets http://www.apple.com/macosx/developertools/dashcode.html wait, so I wasn't right.....? KRB 06-21-2008, 11:06 AM here is a better link for windows http://gallery.live.com/devcenter.aspx KRB 06-21-2008, 11:11 AM What I would be interested in is a gadget/widget that shows the last 10 posts in a selectable forum that updates whenever a new post is added. Maybe it would show post title, post number, poster's name and time post was added. Of course the event would be a link to the post on the forum mysterybox 06-21-2008, 9:08 PM wait, so I wasn't right.....? nope, but you were real close! mojo 06-22-2008, 12:14 AM Ah - I see now. I'm not running Vista and don't have a Mac to test on, so I doubt you'll be seeing one for our forums anytime soon... :) I did check on the other vbulletin development forums, and no one else had one either... |
