anyone here shoot them for fun? I picked up a 1911 A1 .45 APC this weekend at a gun show up in dalton. Prolly going to the range this weekend to break her in if anyone wants to join. And a pic, note the smudge you see under the RIA logo is just oil, not a scratch.

Hahaha... I just noticed what you said. 1911 is the model number, not a year:lol2:

It's the model number which specifies the year that it was first produced and introduced to the public.

I have a Glock G19 that I have neglected for alittle while due to the new tank and also a Remington 870 Shotgun.

Would love to get the new Springfield Armory 45 ACP XD, but all my money has been dumped into the new tank.

Good weapon and I hope it shoots well for you.

Where do you shoot at?

Would having a range setup in back of the house and shooting off the back porch qualify?

Living in the sticks in Bama, shooting is kinda like a requirement for survival here  I got a couple pieces for display, but for good ole American made ECONOMICAL firearms that you dont mind shooting regularly, take a look at Hi-point firearms. life-time FREE warranty. I own a couple and they shoot as well as anything I have fired.

hhehe, yeah 1911 is the model number it was actually put into use with the military in the 20 or 30's and was used with police up till 83ish when the beretta 9mm came out, and yet still to date some police officers still carry the 1911 due to its remarkable reliability. There was this one place that I use to shoot at off canton road I think??? Its been a long time. There is a place that I'm going to go check out this weekend up where my bud lives in norcross, believe its off buford hwy past jimmy carter and all those exits. Wish there was a place closer to me in town here. Broreefr, thats pretty cool that you can shoot in your backyard, I'ld be back there everyday!

Went with the Rock Island Armory 1911 A1 due to the fact that I really couldnt afford a Springfield, Colt or even better a Kimber 1911 A1. Those guns pretty much have all the bells and whistles that a 1911 can have. The RIA one is just a "base" model and its made in the philipines, yet its exact to spec with pieces and parts as the colt; plus it was A LOT cheaper! I've read numerous great reviews about the RIA 1911 so I figured I couldnt go wrong. Only plans of upgrades I have for her is some new grips and possibly a new hammer, which all together should cost about no more than 50 or 60 bucks.

I've shot that 995 9mm carbine and that thing is amazing! Super accurate with hardly any recoil! Was at a shooting range and this guy had one and out of the blue asked me if I wanted to shoot it, sweet gun.

I thought so TOO - I figured for under 2 hundred for a pistol - give it a shot (pun intended) I now own three and I constantly fire the 40 S&W Carbine it came with red dot laser and the shot group to my targets at fifty yards is scary. This "home defense store" I frequent had a run on Saddamm Hussein targets, life size for 50 cent each, the family  sometimes take turns dotting his eyes so to speak.

LOL, thats awesome! SO those guns are typically made of plastic parts, have you ever had any of them jam on you?

Had one jam with the pistol, when I first got it, I think that was of a limp wrist on my part, hadnt jammed since, and the Carbine has never jammed on me. They are lightweight, but nowhere near the ole saturday night special category.

glxtrix, May you were in my neighborhood. I live about 6 miles from the Trade Center in Dalton. I forgot all about the Gun Show, or I would have been there.

I bought me a Smith & Wesson SW40VE (.40 cal) from Grants Sporting Goods in Dalton this summer when I got my Handgun Carrying Permit. It sure is a sweet shooting gun. They have several Model 1911's there and I am thinking about getting one of them also. I also bought me a KELTEC P-3AT (.380 cal) there to carry in my pocket on my motorcycle.

centerforce, I guarantee if you buy a 1911, it'll be one of your favorite guns! It shoots so smooth and clean, plus having the power of a .45 is nice.

Just came back from Grants and bought a Walter P22 and a Taurus .45.
Next will be the 1911 Wahoo

glxtrix
11-18-2006, 11:24 AM
that walther P22 is a nice gun, thats a .45 right? Or am I thinkin of something else?

Centerforce

THe P22 is a .22 Long Rifle. The Taurus is a .45

ahh, I thought you were talking about this gun

http://www.oragie.com/gazoviimages/umarex_walther/Walther_p22_softair_silbern.jpg

my bud picked one of those up, resembles too much like a glock so I really dont care for it, most of the gun is plastic and it kicks like a mule.

THe one I got was solid black and in .22 cal

Lee,
What range do you go to?

glxtrix
12-19-2006, 12:42 PM
I have gone to Eds gun and tackle in marietta, they are pretty nice there... http://www.edsguns.com/

Recently went to one up in norcross area, cant remember the name tho american something or other....maybe....I'll have to get that name, really nice people there, and the fact that they rent out 1911 A1's to shoot is sweet! We'll have to go sometime melissa.

If you're going all the way up to Ed's drive 5min north on Canton Rd and check out Pannell's (http://www.pannellsfirearms.com/). The lanes are nicer but I don't remember the cost difference. I used to shoot there every weekend and dont think the lane prices were too high.

I shoot every once in a while at bullseye in lawrenceville. Its right next to aquabuys. The lanes arent all that great its an older place. I own a glock 19 9mm and a S&W 38. airweight. That 1911 is a beautiful gun, I thought about selling my glock to buy one. Very nice!

glxtrix
12-19-2006, 4:58 PM
heh I would if I were you....then again I'm not a fan of glocks, my 1911 is my baby! But to each is his own with gun purchasing. I wish there was a place closer to me in immediate atlanta area, but I guess the one in norcross isnt too bad.

Melissa
12-19-2006, 5:07 PM
I've looked at Pannells site before. But I haven't gone to any ranges around here, but I need to get my act together and get out to one.

The Dekalb police range is right behind my house. I've been tempted to drive over to see if they'd let me shoot there. Highly doubtful, I'm sure.

I took a permit class in TN but never got it. Too expensive there. They charge a couple hundred bucks or more. I think it's much more affordable here.

tsciarini
12-19-2006, 5:17 PM
their website sucks but its a nice clean store...

glxtrix
12-19-2006, 5:28 PM
the permit here is nothing! Its like 45 bucks and thats it, you dont even need to take a safety course. YEEAAAAWWWWW WEEEEEEEE, go publicans!

I don't even know if they require a safety course in TN, but I took it anyway. I do need to get out and go to a range, so let me know next time ya go, Lee. I have a Colt Series 70 Government Model 9mm. I can't tell ya the last time I fired it - probably well over 15 years ago.

hmmmm.......I leave the uncomfortable silence on this one......................

Yeah melissa, that poor baby is in need of some lovin...prolly needs a good field strip and oilin'. Prolly wont go till after newyears, if youre down then, we'll go, but we'll clean up your pistol befor we go shootin, just to make sure its all ok.....hehehehe, someitmes I think field stripping and cleaning it is more fun than shooting.....ummm, ok well not really, but it is cool.

Melissa
12-20-2006, 5:40 PM
Sadly, the only firearm I know how to strip is an M16 - and I can put it together real fast, too. I'm glad I learned that life lesson now that I can use it. LOL
