expensive and not very hardy...maybe a little less than 100 for a reasonably sized one and that is not second hand from another reefer (which in my opinion is better regardless of price).

oh, nm I think I read your question wrong...are you asking how much they go for, what we paid, or what we're selling them for?

I would have to say that I would only suggest getting a hippo if you have a fairly good size QT tank set up. I have mine in a 30 g and once he is big, ich free and healthy, he will be moving on up to the 90. When you buy a hippo it WILL have ich and when it gets stressed at ALL it will have ich pop back up.

not hardy? where did you get that from? They're one of the more hardier tangs. I have had mine for over 5 years. The small less then 1 inch tangs are somewhat more prone to dying. As long as you get a regal thats more then 1 inch big, and eating well at the lfs, the chances of it kicking it are pretty small.

as dawg pointed out, they get ich easily, and they get stressed pretty easily too. No, they're not the hardest fish to keep, but you make a good point, make sure it is eating at the lfs...I'm still fairly new at SW, but most everyone I talked to before making the dive said to avoid getting a hippo unless you have a well established tank.

Im trying to get rid of mine. Only because it is too large for my take. It has been the most hardy fish I have. It has gotten ick once in the 2.5 years ive had it. It's about 5 inches and fat. It's also a poop machine. Not to try and hijack your thread but anyone who is interested in a large regal for cheap pm me.
