View Full Version : How about a Build Forum?

There's the ARC Memeber tank Gallery, and the DIY Forum, and now we have a new Large Tanks Forum. How about a Build Forum in the Special Intrests Area? DIY Should still be used for smaller projects but I feel as though a Forum dedicated to Set-ups as they begin would be great.

If you get 20 people to vote in favor and have a build thread to post, I can add it.

I do think we have places for builds though (members tanks, large/small tanks, DIY as you mentioned). But if it encourages more reef talk I'm supportive.

If it dies off, the threads can be merged to the DIY section.

why not.....and its my two cents that these threads stay open longer simply due to the fact that tank builds can sometimes be quite lengthy.

I really like the idea of a Tank Build forum while keeping the DIY forum for small projects/devices!

+1 to Luke for suggesting it!

I say go for it. But over at the SWF forums were having some problems because there are way to MANY options.

I'm number 19- I don't build very often, but I'm supporting the cause..

One more to go!!

I say leave it the way it is and post builds in member tanks. After all what happens when the build is done? It just becomes a tank thread in most cases. I also think there can be to many options and it gets confusing on where to post stuff.

Although if you do create a build section I have a thread that can get moved out of members tanks

Did I say 20? I meant 30.

Lol, just kidding.

I hope this is more active than the Nano forum :-)

I hope this is more active than the Nano forum :-) I agree it just dosn't seem that the nano forum can get going even though there seem to be alot of people with them. I think it probably has to do with it being a sub forum and it dosn't show up when you click on forums unless you click special interest.

If you post it, they will come.

It worked for Kevin Costner.

Seriously, we have some movement in the large tank section.

Loren...I think the problem is that most people who post...want their work to be seen by all and so will post in the main forum rather thatn in a pigeonholed category...just an observation and thought.

I agree completely. I offered to move someone's build thread when we setup the new SIGs and they said the same thing.

Problem is that we cant add everything into the drop downs...it's already too long. I looked into multi-level drop downs but they were kind of buggy.

That's why I did not vote one way or the other. It's a great idea but I think folks won't adopt it.

I agree with Loren - there's a useful limit on the number of forums...

Seriously, we have some movement in the large tank section.Well I will tell you what, I will try to make an effort to post more in the nano section and maybe with the help of others it will get rolling.

Anyway back on topic. Most of the other forums I go to people just post builds in the tank section. I just personally think that it would be to many options. I'm so stupid I would sit there and just be confused on what section to put certain posts in LOL.

I'll get it going this week. As long as it's active, I've no problems. But if it become dormant, I'll discuss with the other web-masters and will likely merge it into the Reef section.

Sorry for the delay. There are some other updates and I want to release them all at once. Should be soon :-)

Those of you that would like your build thread moved to the new forum when it's released, shoot me a PM with the link.

I dont think that a tank setup should be a "Build". I would think that a "Build" would be someone making their tank with their own hands and then starting it.

I agree, I think a build would be a tank with modifications not just a setup. for instance my 30 cube does not come reef ready and I hand built my stand. I dont know about making your own tank but I dont think it should be for stuff like "check out my new biocube"
