This will be the first in a multi part series introducing the ELOS brand. Hard to go through a bunch of webpages to find the information on everything, so this series will introduce the products with both ELOS writing, and my own dumbed down experience.

From ELOS:

While we are used to changes in our diets everyday, our marine fishes are usually fed with the same food for long periods. When we need to feed our fish, unless we own an aquarium populated mainly by Soft corals where high level of nutrients is not a limiting factor, we are faced with the need to decide whether we want fish in perfect health condition or colorful SPS corals.

Formulated with high quality ingredients providing high digestibility and palatability with Elos SVM we have developed the first high-nutrition fish food dedicated to feed the fish of our reef aquarium. Made to protect our fish`s health, Elos SVM is a complete balanced formula with all the required nutrients, saltwater crustaceans and 14 marine derived vitamins to provide growth, spawning activity and health of tropical marine fishes.

With the use of Beta-Glucans we add natural substances into the food that are scientifically tested and proven to stimulate the macrophages, specialized cells within the body of the fish, that check and control the pathogenic agents development. Since its introduction in 1997 it has been proven by top fish breeders that Elos SVM can be used to enhance fishes` immunity and successfully strengthen their resistance against bacterial, viral and parasitic infections.

Implementing the OSCAR technology, a "post-extrusion" system to incorporate high nutrition level into standard extruded fish food, we have increased the level of Bio-availability in our food. Particular attention has been paid to the origin of the marine ingredients in order to ensure the optimum ratios of the essential fatty acids. Using Low temperature Extrusion, and LT raw material heat-sensitive nutrients such as amino acids and vitamins are unharmed. All this leads to a high degree of feed digestibility and nutrient value allowing the user to feed much less food thus significantly reducing the level of organic waste into the water.

Many types of seafood contain various inorganic phosphate salts intentionally added to them as preservatives. Using aluminum cans/bags and packed in a controlled atmosphere, we reduce the need to use preservatives thus significantly reducing the level of phophate released to the water.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Use of Beta Glucans: to improve fishes` resistance and survival rates
High natural astaxanthin pigment levels: to enhance fish colors
Superior nutritional profiles: excellent amino acid profile, high levels of highly unsaturated fatty acids, etc.
Improved digestibility and palatability
High quality pack: to reduce need of preservative implementing low phosphate level
Potent flavoring/feed attractant: resulting in improved feed uptake and Food Conversion Ratios (FCRs)

From Chris/EA:

1. Food Conversion Ratios: In plain english... you grab a beer and a hotdog at the Braves game... (GO BRAVES! ) tasty, and perfect for the game... but no nutritional value. Go grab some fresh veggies and meat from a whole foods type market, your getting a really healthy, really nutritious meal.

Most Dry Fish Foods on the Market (pellets/flakes) have little to no protein content.

Hikari S: 48% - A really Good Food.
New Life Spectrum: 34% - Good carb food!

ELOS svM2: 75%

2. Vitamins - Other brands add vitamins to their Foods, but, in a process that allows the vitamins to break down over a quick period around 1-3 months. ELOS adds vitamins and fatty-acids to the food under a vacuum controlled process, therefore sealing them into the food.

3. No phosphate salts!! This is a huge one for me, I will not add additional phosphates into our tanks or the tanks of our clients when not necessary.

We only carry products that we would put in our tanks, and therefore, ELOS svM2 is the only dry fish food we carry!
