I've been working with our provider to try to determine why the site is so slow recently. It seems that the database is being overburdened (by our forums, plus a bunch of others that we don't own). I've re-optimized the database tables, but we're still working to try to find out what the root cause is.

I wonder if we should prune some of the forums. For example, do we need x number of years of Lounge?

I don't think it'd make much difference. We're running a relatively small site for vbulletin on a beefy server, and all the appropriate tables are indexed as needed. I think there's a problem with the mysql config...

I think it would be okay to 86 lounge from say 6 months and back

Update: We'll be upgrading servers soon so we can breath a little more. It seems we (and the other sites on this machine) have outgrown our little machine, and it's time for something beefier.

Because of the transfer to another server, this will cause the site to be down for about 24hrs while the DNS changes propagates. The site will need to be moved over and the necessary internet changes made.

This is currently planned for Friday, May 9th. I'll make a notice on the home page.

Oh my goodness Chris!?!?!?!? A friday??? I'll be jones-in' for sure if the site is down 24 hours on a Friday! Ah, the price of advancement.:sad:

Saturday and Sunday are our big traffic days, so a weekday made more sense. If I do it on a Monday, then I'm having to juggle work and getting the site fixed all week; if I do it on a Friday and something happens, I have the weekend to work on it. So... Friday it is.

Unfortunately, this is not a small task - moving this much data between different servers in different locations and not having any duplicate posts or angry people is quite an undertaking, so I've got to make it as easy as possible for me.

I won't be angry. Just givin' you a hard time. You do a great job for us and I appreciate it. (But I will be jones-in', just so ya know! Think of me, sitting here, pressing the refresh button all night friday night! j/k!)
