Female Lyretail Anthias (Pseudanthias squamipinnis) stares down the camera.
http://www.reeftourist.com/pictures/IMG_3423.JPG

They are SO interested in watching what's going on outside of the aquarium. The 3 of them gather around the glass to get a look at my 1 yr old when he's looking at the tank.
hmm... perhaps I'll ask for a macro lens for Christmas.

hey reef tourist what kind of camera did you use for this picture of the anthia? also is a macro lense expensive and is it used for really close up shots and detail??

ReefTourist

It's a Cannon Digital Rebel XT (8mp, excellent camera) with a standard lens and running on the "macro" setting. Downside is I find that I can only focus on part of a really close object. You can see what I mean with the pic above b/c the anthias' tail is not well defined.
Now that I think about it the macro setting is supposed to blur the background. I think it picks too small of an area for the foreground no matter what setting I use, and that a macro lens would make for some GREAT closeup pictures.
I did some quick looking around at lenses awhile back, and for that camera they are all $400-$800 which I'd rather spend elsewhere... that is until I have lots of things in my reef that I want to photograph.

Yes i see the blured tail but still its alot better than my fugi film camera. How much does the actual camera cost?

ReefTourist

We opted for a nice camera vs. a camcorder when my son was born b/c I can't stand watching "jerky" home movies. So I believe you can find it now for $700 or so . The Rebel XTi is out now, and is 10mp :o so I'm sure that will drive the retail of this camera down some more. If you're looking for the same performance with a lower price look at other SLR cameras that aren't digital.
