View Full Version : 2006 Christmas Party
It may be un-PC to call it "Christmas," so call it whatever makes you happy! :shades:
CHANGE OF DATE: Due to availability of places big enough to seat us all, the date is now Sunday, Dec 17th @ 7:30pm. The party will be at Spondivits (http://www.spondivits.net), off of Pharr Road in Buckhead (near Atlanta Fish Market):
360 Pharr Road (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=360+Pharr+Road,+Atlanta,+GA+30305&ie=UTF8&z=15&om=1&iwloc=addr)
Atlanta, GA 30305 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=360+Pharr+Road,+Atlanta,+GA+30305&ie=UTF8&z=15&om=1&iwloc=addr)
This was the best place that allowed us to have a large private room, central location, good and inexpensive food, and pay via separate checks. I didn't get any other suggestions from people, so just had to call around until I found something. There will be complimentary valet ($1-2 tip), or you can park yourself for $6.
I'm going to invite all the sponsors and some people at the Aquarium, including Bruce Carlson, Marj Awai, Ray Davis, Debbie Hutchinson, and others. Maybe we can do a presentation of some of the things we saw in the Solomons and Bruce will have had a chance to put together some of his video footage.
If you're interested in coming, please post here with the running total, so we can get an idea of how many people are interested. If you have any suggestions for place and date/time, now will be a good time as well! We've traditionally done it at Edo's, but given last year's success, I don't think we can fit in there and have a presentation. We'll need a place that will hold 80-120 people, depending on the responses here.
Oh yeah- unless anyone wants to foot the bill (thousands and thousands of dollars), renting a place at the GA Aquarium isn't an option.
Chris - 1
Suggested Place: Edo's again, but would be crowded
Suggested Date/Time: Saturday, Dec 16, at ~7pm (This date would hopefully be sooner than people's vacations and on a weekend, to appeal to the anti-Tuesday crowd)
Total: 1

Todd
Sprayin70 10-27-2006, 8:34 PM What... no fish talk. LOL
Actually, I'm still working out the details, but I'm hoping that I can get Bruce Carlson to give a video presentation of the Solomon Islands trip, including the trip, the boat, the villages, the diving, etc. Then a followup with Steve and myself, to show the pictures we got.
If all that happens, then it shouldn't be a nerdy fish talk as much as showing pretty pictures from the other side of the world. No talk of calcium, skimmers, refugiums, or other geek topics. :)

I talked to Dr. Bruce Carlson and his wife, Dr. Marj Awai. They'll both be there (where ever "there" is). Dr. Carlson told me he should have enough video together from the Solomon Islands trip to be able to show some at the meeting.
Marj is an awesome photographer, and we're excited to have her there as well, to show pictures of the trip as well. I've attached one that she took in the Oceans Explorer exhibit at the Aquarium.
THat is an unreal photograph
KuLLaS 11-04-2006, 11:33 AM i should be in for 2 that makes 19
glxtrix 11-04-2006, 4:23 PM was she in the tank for that shot?
SShindell 11-04-2006, 5:12 PM Yes, she was diving at the time.
To repeat what Chris has said before - please be respectful of the fact that the photo is her private property (or in this case, GAI) and not use it without permission.
Steve

fishmama 11-09-2006, 3:35 PM I am in!!! Lets plan on having it at the Chinese Buffet restaurant right next door to Cappucino Bay Aquarium. They have great food, plenty of space and its a good price. If we reserve we can get a group discount, the rotary club usually meets there. We could all then go afterwards to the fish store and see if Bobby will give us all a discount.
