They are really easy to make. You can pick up button magnets at walmart for a couple of dollars for 4 magnets and egg crate at HD or Lowes. Than just cut the egg crate to the size you want and glue the magnets on one side.

I just made one a little while back. They are easy to build. Just super glue an algae mag to a small light rack shelf.

Hardware section, but I don't think the ones I picked up would be strong enough for you. They had several types ranging from $2-$6.

I hate to ask this, but I'm still breaking into this hobby...does anyone have a pic they'd be willing to post of the frag rack made out of egg carton so I can see what my finished "product" should look like? I saw the pic of the "pro" version and it looks like it would be easy to duplicate with the ceiling grids sold in HD. Is the egg crate just cheaper or does it offer some benefit over the "pro" version?

Thanks Merlin...the site you offered had some great pics of all different kinds of ideas. The glass on my tank isn't 3/4", but it's at least 1/2" so I think I'll probably go with the neodymium magnets. They're cheap enough off of eBay (in a multitude of sizes to suit most any application) and one of the postings on the site you recommended showed a way to encase them in pvc rather than coating them with epoxy. I would think the neodymium magnets would stick through the thickest glass. I used to use them for a old hobby of mine (which I won't divulge for fear of being picked on) and the biggest problem we ever had with them was getting pinched because the magnets were so strong; however, they certainly served their purpose.

Question though -- I saw in one post on the other site that they painted the rack black with krylon - is that safe?

Here ya go. I just made mine out of some old stuff I had. Tried to find some magnets at walmart but afraid that it can't hold the rack through 3/4 glass.

good idea. i wasnt sure about how much weight it could hold.
