View Full Version : my solana 34 galon cube. MarkL 04-02-2008, 7:08 PM picked this cube up a few week ago at aqua buys .im trying to see if i can load these pics. johnr2604 04-02-2008, 8:28 PM lets see some more pics with it set up. I need to get buy and check it out this weekend. Maybe we can grill some cheeseburgers or something. MarkL 04-03-2008, 6:35 PM after selling my 90 gallon reef tank over 3 years ago .im giving it another go. i bought a few nanos this year, and decided to buy a solana 34 by current usa. heres the stats of tank. -solana 34 stand -solona 34 tank 20x20x20 rimless cube -solana 34 disco ball 150 hqi -stock skimmer for now. -stock return pump 450 gph -koralia 1 400 gph -jbj auto top off w/ maxi jet 600 pump ( im lazy) -hydor 150 watt heater -coral life digital timer 1st chamber running stock skimmer 2nd chamber drip pad ,live rock rubble, carbon, purigen bag. 3rd chamber ato return and float, return pump, heater i just added coral ill have to take a few shots. im still working on my aquascape. - calireefer 04-07-2008, 1:48 AM I like the rock work. Tank looks good. Are you doing SPS or going another route. johnr2604 04-07-2008, 2:41 AM I think he is doing a mixed reef. His solana is really nice. That ATO that comes with the tank is kinda a joke. But Sam hooked him up with all the goodies. I really like the look of that tank, Very classy look . MarkL 04-07-2008, 9:13 PM im still playing with rocks. do have a few corals .i get some pics tonight.im trying to grow a nice zoa garden .but yes it will be a mixed reef. purpleGORILLA 04-08-2008, 11:11 AM Very nice man. Derek_S 04-09-2008, 7:23 PM Is that container in your stand the top off reservoir? MarkL 04-10-2008, 1:25 AM yes it a five gallon container i picked up at walmart. ive been thinking of doing mostly sps tank and loosing the sand.with the koralia 1 my sand blows around. not sure how much water flow to go with . maybe loose the one add 2 koralia 3's for a high energy system. if the light is not enough im going to get a 250w aquamedic . Derek_S 04-10-2008, 4:35 PM A CBay employee told me he's had good luck keeping sps under a 150W (or was it 175W) MH, so maybe you'll be ok. For what it's worth, the pic of the Current USA webpage shows an acro and a Cap flourishing under the 150W pendant... LOL I have wondered myself if you could change the guts of the aluminum pendant to hold a 175-250W light. Probably not really worth it, but I've wondered... Derek_S 04-10-2008, 4:36 PM See... must be true: http://www.current-usa.com/files/images/solana_sideimg.jpg  MarkL 04-10-2008, 7:41 PM notice how the light is mounted to the left side. mine still wouldnt center up. i added a 2x4 painted it black. now mine mounts in the center. the light os also in the center. MarkL 04-10-2008, 10:15 PM heres a few frags i got . i got the frag rack at target. its a clear soap dish holder $2.99. im letting some of the frags grow out befor i place them.and still messing with the rocks. going to get some high end zoas this weekend and a superman montie. the plan has changed a little. i got rid of most of my corals. im going for more rare and hard to find stuff. i do want a really nice zoa garden. the pic of the gree zoas are on as clam shell. and the clam is still alive. not sure what to feed it ect. my blue tub zoas are starting to open. i just got those from slayer at the meeting tues. Derek_S 04-11-2008, 11:28 AM The soap dish looks like a genious idea. You could also glue it to an old magnetic glass cleaner so it wont accidentally fall. I bought my solana last night, and just mounted it to the side as in the picture. It must be designed to mount this way, as it lined right up. I almost went for center, but found that the holes on the back support lined right up with the light bracket, so I went lazy man on it. Derek_S 04-11-2008, 11:34 AM BTW, I think it's a good idea to go LE/rare. With a small tank, you can really pack some 'wow' by doing that, I think. I will probably keep all my ordinary corals and replace with neater stuff as I go, if needed. I'm gonna do similar to what I tink you are doing, and have a neat zoa garden on the bottom end with a few LPS, and just a couple of nice SPS on mid/top. Right now my sps will include a orange cap, pink cat's paw, validia, and a couple digis. I will see how these do. Are you adding any fish? I have 5 in my 29, but I think I will go to just 3 to keep a light bio-load. MarkL 04-11-2008, 6:58 PM the soap dish holder has part at the bottom that leans against glass,to prop it up. i doubt its going to fall.it is a temp for now. im lazy im probally going to order a frag rack.if you look at picture it actually leans up. i put to bars of unoped soap on it and it stayed on my mirror all night. Derek_S 04-14-2008, 10:19 AM Brilliant. I think I will copy you on that. I just have a problem with suction cups. Mine always seem to be falling. But since the soap ones are designed to hold heavy bar soap, they surely will hold some 'lil frags. MarkL 04-15-2008, 6:00 PM hers a few pics of the new frags i got.im going to let them grow out a little. ive been considering putting them on small smooth river rocks. for my zoa garden.i picked up purple people eater purple death nuclear greens lunar eclipse bright yellow /orange red with green mouth. and a superman montie frag. thats it for this month. im picking up some more stuff from rit and slayer at the next meeting. LiveRock27 04-15-2008, 6:12 PM Very nice zoa collection you have going there. I also love the Superman Monti. Derek_S 04-16-2008, 10:59 AM I'm jealuos! I want a soap dish! I tried to upload pics of my solana this morning, but the net dropped out on me. blind1993 04-22-2008, 9:15 PM how much did you get this for? looks nice i am also going to try and get a zoa farm like yours but my tank is a 55g. MarkL 04-22-2008, 9:58 PM i bought the set up at aquabuys. i dont want to quote prices but was cheaper then ive seen it at some lfs.i wish i would have used my arc discount but i didnt think of it. MarkL 04-25-2008, 8:44 PM lately ive been having heat problems .decided if i have to buy a chiller im going to buy a 250 hqi and run a high energy set up. im moving all live stock to my other tank to get my sand out this weekend.heres a few more rare sps. tyree city red tyree true undata tyree leng si tyree cali torti tyree miyagi tyree blue berry millie. KRB 04-25-2008, 9:17 PM Mark, its looking good man. One bit of advice, watch out how many different corals you put in there. They are going to grow and in about a year, you will run into issues with them fighting each other or growing over neighbors, etc. In my 20 gallon, I have about 30 different species. It is way to many. My tank is about a year and 3 months old and I am having problems beginning to develop. I wish I had planned it better. I have decided to let nature take its course and see what happens. I will be fraggin some of my favorites to put in my other 20 that should be setup as soon as my DFS order arrives. I am going to put just a few of my favs in there and let them get big. Just my $.02 MarkL 04-25-2008, 9:35 PM im spreading them out a little more.im just sittig things in now . i havent finished my frag tank where im moving this to grow a little. the plan is to buy a 120 for a good deal. then thats the final tank. johnr2604 04-25-2008, 9:54 PM Lookin good Mark. Derek_S 04-26-2008, 9:37 AM Mark, looking good. Looks like Rit hooked you up with the bomb diggidy. I wish I could've left with some of those beauties. AliKat 04-27-2008, 5:00 AM Where's the best place in town or online to buy Solanas? I have a Red Sea Max right now. Trying to decide if I sell it and get a Solana.
