I got one of these today wtih my new tank, use to be my tank a many of year ago and sold it to my sis, and wondered if they were any good? It seems to work ok but I was just wondering if yall han anything to say about it. Im gonna full cycle the tank agian cause there has been no fish in it for @ 6 or so months, the filters had just been running. I dumped all the water and just started fresh. I got the 75 gal tank, stand , a power filter, heaters, supplements, skimmer, and some lights for $75. The lights Im gonna replace cause they are just 4 48" lights and I dont like the setup that they are in. Im gonna build a canopy for it also, I will keep everyone updated on it.

coralife superskimmers are great for the money. I did the fishing line mod to mine and it is working great.

I have a SS 65 on a 45 gallon tank it pulls a lot of dark stuff out of the water but I dont know if it is enough for my tank I think they may be way over rated. I wish I would have gotten the next step up

I don't really like the Super Skimmers. The venturi clogs really easily, they require a consitant water level for proper operation, and their capacity is over rated.

When they do skim, they do an okay job, but the amount of work required for that to occur would keep me from ever using one.

After an extensive break in period I'm happy with mine. As far as the venturi clogging; I replaced the cheap air line it comes with with some regular silicon air line and i haven't had a clog since. I also added an air valve in between the silencer and the venturi (heard about that on the reef keeper forum) and it made my foam production and water level a lot more consistent. For the price i like 'em.
