Ok so after my last set-up
http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2045
I wanted to go a little bigger so I bought JustOneMoreTank's 120 closed loop. I'm sure some of you remember seeing this one for sale.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/Dirty.jpg
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/Closedloopsystem.jpg

I got the tank home and purchased a Dart sequence pump for the closed loop. After two weekends and about 10 trips to the hardware store I was able to get the close loop part of the system installed.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/0301081639a.jpg

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/0301081640.jpg

I filled the tank high enough that the closed loop would work so I could water test it. I also dumped 7 gallons a vinager in with the water. Now the tank looks new.

I then purchased a sump and ASM G2 skimmer for the tank but couldn't get the sump to fit under the tank.... so I purchased a 50 gallon tall acrylic tank from Glass Cages. This past weekend I installed the baffles and a chamber for a refugium in that acrylic tank using Weld-on #16. That stuff is awesome.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/DSC02750.jpg

Two days ago I installed all the pumbing for under the tank. I really made a mess but it should be functional.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/DSC02760.jpg

Anyways, if anyone has an comments let me know. I'm starting to fill it now with RO water. I hope to have some Live Rock in it by the end of the month.

Oh yah and I have a Mag12 pump for my return.

Looking good Perry!

It looks like one return goes directly into the skimmer and the other return goes directly to the sump and fuge?

Yah that's how it is right now but i was going to put another T and one more gate valve in the area boxed so I can limit the flow going to the skimmer. The other end of the T would go into the sump. I learned from this months meeting i should try to get about 25% of my return to go to the refugium and the rest should go the sump and skimmer.

LOTS OF UPDATES

First off I got about 100#s of Live Rock.

40#s of Tonga table Rock
60#s from Saltwater City including one monster pictured below.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/DSC02768.jpg

I also upgraded the lights over the weekend thanks to Mark(flyingarmy) and Mike(mufret).

Before the upgrade I was running 2x175 10k and it looked like this.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/DSC02795.jpg

Now I'm running a 400watt 10k with a Lumen Bright 3 reflector and 2x65watt actinics. It looks like this now.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/DSC02802.jpg

The only issue I have now is the center brace on the tank. I seem to have over looked this while I was planning and I believe it is going to force me to purchase another 400watt and another Lumen Bright so I can have one on both sides of the tank.

Here is a better picture of the rocks. This was my first arrangement and I'm really happy with it. I have about 5 different shelf like structures at different levels in the tank. The one large piece of rock made for a really stable base.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/DSC02804.jpg

The final thing I added this weekend was about 30 pounds of live sand I picked up from Dave(BroncoXpress). I'm having some issues with the loop system blowing the sand every where. I was hoping I wouldn't have to put lockline on the return of the loop but if I want to have sand and not Marine Rock on the bottom I'm not sure I have a choice.

Budsreef

What grain of sand is that? I just put in some heavier grain sand in mine and so far it is not being blown around. The rock looks great, did you glue or pin it to hold it in place?

Chemically_Balanced
03-24-2008, 10:00 AM
The sand as pretty fine. I'm not sure the grain siaze but it looks around the same as regular salt.

I didn't glue or pin anything in the rock work. If you look at the first picture of the one rock you can see one side of that rock as almost perfectly flat. The flat side was 26"X10" and made for a really sturdy base. I worked for about a hour making sure all the pieces are locked together.

After further inspection I now know the wrasse is a male Conde's Fairy Wrasse from Vanuatu. The Lopezi tang I started with died unexpectedly. He was eatting fine and was really getting along with the other tank members. Then he died......

This is the tank after the SWC Auction.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e370/perrythompson/120%20Gallon%20Tank/DSC02975.jpg

I also have added a couple new members to the tank.

Another unknown Wrasse-- :D

No picture but I also added a Chaulk Bass, Yellow Citron Gody, and a Regal Tang.

I picked up an XM 20k bulb from Reef Tank lighting yesterday. I'll post more pictures later that don't look so yellow from the 10k.

The Conde's Fairy Wrasse is coming out of the tank. He has beat down and mad two other wrasses I added to the tank jump into the overflows. This morning I was lucky enough to see him in a rock on the top of the aquascape. I grabbed the rock out while I had the flashlight blinding him.
He is now in the sump. :yay:

He is a beautiful wrasse but I think adding him in to the tank first went to this head. Plus he is was the biggest fish in the tank at a huge 3 inches.

Ok I added four nice wrasse I picked up from SWC to the tank after finally catching the mean one. I also added some more corals from the Marine Fish sale and a Pearly Jawfish, Mandarin Dragnet, and a pair of Banggai Cardinals. The next step is to upgrade my skimmer. I was thinking about the Octopus 150 dual recirculated. I added a pump to the ASM-G2 I'm running now to supply the skimmer with around 200 GPH and it's reallly pulling some good stuff but.... I need more power. Anyone got some suggestions on a good skimmer for about 150 gallons of water with a Heavy bio load?

Sorry to report. The jawfish is gone. I'm not sure what happened but he isn't in any of his normal spots. After three days I have given up looking for him. He was looking really good, eatting, and then.....gone.

I ordered the Octopus DDNW-150 yesterday and I hope that it comes in tomorrow. I'm going to mesh mod it and probably bore the venturi out as big as it will go. I'm really excited about this skimmer and hope it does a good job. My bio load is really big now. I think I'm going to purchase a Phos-Ban reactor and start running that because I'm getting some algea and I'm beginning to wonder about the water I've been using. I'll post pics when i receive the skimmer.

The tank looks great and that sump is packed. Do you have any trouble switching out the filter sock? I still can't decide if it is worth the trouble to add them to my system.

Chemically_Balanced
06-10-2008, 10:35 AM
I just started running a filter sock and I can see a huge difference in the water. I have had to clean the sock out twice in the past week so it does take some work but I think the benefit is well worth it. I might not run it all the time kinda like I do with carbon. If I think the water isn't clear enough I add these things to the system for a couple days to clean it up.

The sump is as full as it can be. I just barely got the new skimmer in. I had to place it in and then add the second recirculating pump after it was in place. My refugium is packed full of cheato. That 65w CP over it running 16 hours a day really makes that stuff grow. Believe it or not that is a 50 gallon tall for a sump and the refugium is 10x10x17 full of cheato. I'm getting rid of some of it at the meeting tonight.

I attached it to a Algae Free Hammerhead magnetic glass cleaner. Hope it can hold it for a while. I had to put the handle side of the magnet in a plastic bag because it's under water in the overflow. I wasn't sure how good that wood was for the water. It's holding really good and I guess if it ever gets to big for the magnet to hold I can move it to the glass on the back wall. That should be thinner.
