We saw these @ the Home Depot Clearance Center (East-West Connector) this weekend. I can't remember how many cubic feet (7.0 maybe), and the price marked for this GE Freezer is only $147. We saw one rung up at the register and the price at checkout was actually just $120. The store had maybe 15-20 of these in stock that I could see. These are new.

Not a huge freezer, but you could still put a lot of frozen fish food in one of these.

I love that clearance center they made there. I thought for sure that place was going to turn into an eye sore. Thankfully they did something nice there and created more jobs :)

We've gotten some awesome deals there. I thought it would be a bunch of scratch 'n dent stuff, but it's not. It's mostly actual *surplus*. Some stuff is not a fantastic buy, so you have to know your prices when you shop.

it depends on the compressor. I think freezers are now using r-134a freon, so it would be cheap to recharge. You would also have to buy and tig the titanium tubing.

or if you could set the temp, you could use regular tubing and roll it a few times inside of it. Tho yes you'll ahve to worry about freezing int he tubes, which is why this is more commonly used with small refirdges....but if there is a temp controller, it should work.

No, that won't work. You would burn out the compressor for sure; it's not designed to operate like that. It sounds good in theory, but it doesn't work out so well in practice (kind of like Communism!)

Yeah thats why I was saying if it has its own temp setting it would work, but you def couldn't put your own on it. Oh well, stick to the mini fridges for that.

The compressors in fidges/freezers are designed to remove ambient temps, and then once there, shut off until the temp rises again. They are not designed to run constantly (unlike a/c compressors). The insulation in the freezer panels ensures that the temps remain stable inside, for the most part. Since they are not designed to run for extended periods of time, all you'll end up doing is burning out the compressor. An aquarium has a constant level of heat which needs to constantly be cooled.

Besides, cheap refrigerators are now using Peltier junctions, which cannot remove indirect heat very effeciently and use absolutely ginormous amounts of electricity. Your electric bill would be monstrous, assuming that the pelt doesn't overheat and burn down your house first.

Not to mentio how small a BTU rating the freezer would be. You would need a massive one just to compete with the amount of heat that a tank generates. I'm sure there's a good equation to this, but I figure it would be 2 btu's per pound of water?

Hmm interesting. Wasn't my idea, I've seen people over on RC do this and it seems to work for them. Oh well.

Thanks for the heads up. I went straight down there, and they had an 8.8 CF and a 10 CF. I got the 10 for $142. Tax and all! I priced that one in town-it was a 9CF for $300 plus tax! I was working in Rockmart anyways, so it wasn't that bad a drive. Thanks!

Need a *Please Don't Tap On The Glass* sign, if one has not been put up since we were there a couple months ago. One side of the tank faces the kids' waiting area and chairs were pulled right up to the tank. Toddlers were standing on the chairs and tapping.

It takes some elbow grease to get all those hand and forehead prints off the glass on this kids' side.

That's not a bad idea at all. But it might just be a great way to spead Staph. Wellstar is a very clean place, but when a bunch of sick kids are handling the same thing and showing their parents...

What about one of those posters? Like the ones we had for raffles at the meetings back in the fall? Doesn't have to be *tacked* to the wall. Could be mounted in a poster frame.
