View Full Version : delete/lock/close your own thread Tonester_man 02-27-2008, 1:15 PM have the ability for the original poster to either delete or lock/close out their own thread..... haninja 02-27-2008, 1:19 PM My understanding, as a general policy, we do not delete threads. Even closing threads is somewhat controversial. I think that at this point we are only looking at closing 'For Sale' threads after a certain period of time. Linda Lee 02-27-2008, 1:24 PM Well, you can delete it, but you have only a 15-minute window. After that it *sticks*. Within 15 minutes, open your thread, click on *edit* and then select *delete*. You can add a reason for deleting, if you want to, but you don't have to. Also... subject line still remains visible. haninja 02-27-2008, 1:29 PM Also... subject line still remains visible. hmm, I think you see it because you belong to the BoD member group. I don't think everybody can see it. Linda Lee 02-27-2008, 1:37 PM You can't see a subject line in the *Lounge* forum for a post I just deleted? Tonester_man 02-27-2008, 1:39 PM nope LorenK 02-27-2008, 1:52 PM It's expected that BoD members have the ability to moderate the forum. Actually it was interesting that Jin revived that post last week because they talk about that (I think). So moderators can soft delete threads and see soft deleted threads. On having the ability to delete/lock threads, I don't think we should do that. I'm not sure what the benefit would be and it would probably make some folks unhappy to be in the middle of a 'debate', have the OP make some comment and lock the thread. But as Linda said, the OP can delete their post within 15 minutes. But that's about it. Skriz 02-27-2008, 3:01 PM Having the ability to edit/delete a thread can be very very bad. It would give someone the ability to go back and change specs, pricing, etc. on a FS thread (and let's face it, there are a lot of dishonest people in the world who would do that). I am sure there are other reasons also; this is just a big one that I see. Cameron 02-27-2008, 5:31 PM I like the ability of orginal posters to close threads in the F/S section. jmaneyapanda 02-27-2008, 5:44 PM Why not just manually say "sold" or "not for sale" anymore? I do NOT like the ability for users to lock, delete, or close anything. It removes all responsibility and culpability. Cameron 02-28-2008, 11:27 AM Delete and closing in other forums, but why would closing a F/S thread remove any responsibility or culpability? What you wrote is still out there for everyone to see and assuming it isn't posted in the wrong place, they only thing in the F/S section is stuff for sale.
