Please put on your thinking cap for a second....

At the meeting I bought the yellow gorgonian from you for Linda.

Any info you can give me on this puppy would be very helpful.

Thanks

Hey,

Here is a link (http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=16&cat=1926&articleid=2294) The picture is the Red Gorgonian, the yellow one you bought is in the same family.

They require feeding to maintain them since they are not photosynthetic and I would avoid putting them directly under metal halides.

Please let me know if this helps or if you have any more unanswered questions.

Thanks,
Tim

Ive got one too Loren. What you need to know?

".... should be given adequate space away from neighboring corals or anemones. Underwater epoxy is commonly used to anchor its base to a piece of live rock in the reef aquarium. It is difficult to maintain even in the well-established reef system. It is not photosynthetic and requires a low level of lighting to ward off a build-up of microalgae. It also requires a stronger water flow and the addition of iodine, calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.

Since it is not photsynthetic, its survival is dependent on regular and frequent feedings of micro-plankton, live, baby brine shrimp, or foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates."

This was an impulse buy (greatly appreciated, though!!) but is probably not going to do well in my tank. We should probably sell it and maybe we could get back what we paid.

Research....... research...... research.

Yeah, I am dosing phyto, cyclop and baby brine. First I cut off the pumps and skimmer. Then, I put some reef trace in and after about 10 minutes I put in the phyto. Then once the polyps extend, I put in a cloud of cyclop and baby brine. The polyps catch it as it floats by and its coloring up even more.

Daily???

And can I ignore that part about *stronger flow* ...? You have yours in a seahorse tank, right? And ponies need low flow?

I have a purple gorgonian that I got from Jessezm in August and it's doing fine. Doubled in size and covered with fuzzy polyps. But I've never fed it. I'm guessing it's not one that needs target feeding.
