Here is a list of all fish commonly available from Keen Reef's Suppliers. In order to provide better service and cut down on cost I have implemented a new plan. This is a test run and based on the response will determine if I continue in the future.

The attached PDF file contains a list of all available fish and there prices. There is about 500 fish on the list and are in alphabetic order based on family. The price listed is before Discounts and Taxes. If you wish to purchase a fish please pm me or email me at tsmith@keenreef.com.

You will notice the prices are at least 30% less than my previous prices here are the reasons why:

Keen Reef no longer offers a 15 day warranty on fish. We will guarantee the fish for 24 hours. We still warranty coral and inverts for the full 15 days.
Keen Reef is reducing the number of fish we normally hold in inventory. We will still carry fish in inventory, just a smaller selection. This will help reduce overhead and help keep our prices low.
This also allows us to better serve you the customer by ordering the fish you want. How does this work?

Keen Reef will take orders for fish in a 2 week period, at the end of that period all orders will be placed. The fish will arrive usually within 24 hours.
If your order is greater than $100 Keen Reef will require prepayment of the order. This will help to ensure pick up once the fish is arrived.
All orders for fish must be picked up within 3 days of arrival. Special Arrangements can be made.Additional Options:

Warranty - You can purchase a warranty for an additional cost. This cost is based on the difficulty of a species to keep in captivity.
Quarantine - For an additional fee based upon the cost and type of fish. Keen Reef will quarantine your fish for 2 weeks. The first order period will run from 2-13-08 to 1-2-08. The order will be placed on 1-3-08 and ready for pickup at 11:00 AM on 1-4-08. Please keep in mind that some fish are harder to get and might take 2 order periods to get. At the end of the 2nd order period, if you wish to have a refund, I will gladly do so with no questions asked.

I feel this will allow me to give you, my customers, customized service that will be mutually beneficial.

Please feel free to ask any question that I may have not answered in this post.

Thanks,

Tim

I think that is a very sound business decision and I dont' think it will hurt business any. Few questions: What happens if a fish dies in paid QT? Is it covered or do you also have to purchase an additional warranty to cover it while it is in your care? Are your QT tanks seperate from your main system and how many if any fish will be kept under the QT? Will it be possible to dose medications while in QT?

The more rare fish aren't on this list. I will still have to manually search for those. So if a fish is not listed let me know and I can track it down.

Great questions. I knew you would come up with the hard ones. :)

What happens if a fish dies in paid QT? Is it covered or do you also have to purchase an additional warranty to cover it while it is in your care?

If the fish dies without a paid warranty, I will credit you 50% of the money back to you for future livestock.

If you purchase the additional warranty and it dies you will recieve the full 100% credit for the fish.

At the end of the QT when you pickup the fish, you will have 1 full day left on your warranty to ensure it makes the transition into your tank.

Are your QT tanks seperate from your main system and how many if any fish will be kept under the QT?

Yes, I am setting up several independent tanks that are separate from my main systems. If the fish all arrive at the same time, then they can be mixed in the QT tanks or if they are all of the same customer's order, they can be mixed in the same tank.

Will it be possible to dose medications while in QT?
Yes, because they will be separate systems the can be dosed accordingly if needed.

All paid QT services will include one of the following preventive dips: formalin, Metheylene Blue, or Malchalite Green.

That is the next step if the trial run is successful. I am going to redesign the website to allow these fish to be preordered from the website. It just takes a lot of time to add 500 items to the website. :)

Thanks,
Tim

What format do you enter them on your website? Depending on that format, I can probably convert that PDF into it and save you some time.

I have the original in the form of an excel spreadsheet that I created. Which is the format the website could take. But it is the additional data adding of the categories and all that extra stuff that has to be done manually that drives me crazy. :)

My only concern is the site unseen. It is always nice to see the fish and then buy instead of buying and then seeing. I under stand it will reduce your overhead and fish loss hit though. What happens if the fish is DOA to your door?

If it is DOA at my door, I eat the first 5% of the order total then my wholesaler will credit the rest back to me. Your "Warranty" or liablity does not start until you take possesion or the fish is in my QT tanks if you choose that route.

The other reason why I am trying this idea is that no one else does it. There maybe a reason but I am trying to make my business a custom a la carte store. It is worth a try and if things don't work out the way I feel they should, I will reassess the situation and try a new approach.

The list is on the website. No pictures or descriptions. That is what will take the longest to update. But it is a start. :) Might be easier than the pdf file I attached. Plus it gives you the ability to preorder online for local pickup.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks,
Tim

Tim excellent idea...it seems like a sound business practice!

Since you are now a "a-la-carte" store this is what I'd like:

1/2 Corris Gammard Wrasse (hold the brightly colored lines), 1/2 Copperband Butterfly but instead of the alternating white and black stipes I'd like blue and green stripes and put the green stripes on the side. I'd like a cup of Blue Legged Hermits w/out the shells in a nice 8.4 PH salty broth. If I can get a toasted Blue Linkia, buttered lightly that would be great also.
