Product: Mag Test Kit
Manufactorer: Elos (www.elosusa.com) (http://www.elosusa.com)/)
Price: $27.99
Review Type: Initial Report
Overall Rating: 6

Pros:
Easy to use. Test can be performed quickly.

Cons:
Expensive and color change was difficult. Should have came with a syringe and vial that are 3ml rather than 5ml.

In Depth:
Like the KH and Ca tests, two types of directions were included. One is very detailed in multiple languages and the other is simply a set of pictures showing the test kit user what to do. The second option is a nice plus since after most of us use a kit a time or two we have it down, but it is nice to have a quick guide.

To use the test was easy and very similar to the Elos Ca test. Suck up 3ml (read the directions closely... it says 3ml and the included syringe is 5ml as are the marks on the glass vial) in the provided syringe then put that in a vial. Add in the first reagent, shake, then add in the second reagent, shake then add a drop at a time until the color changes from pink to blue. The number of drops times 75 is your Mg. Note: Older kits have a 100 resolution so you should multiply by 100. If your kit says 100 and the box date says 12/2009 I believe you are supposed to use 75 even though the instructions says 100.

As mentioned in the Cons section the item is more expensive than the cheaper tests, but worth it from an ease of use perspective and like the other Elos test kits color change isn't as obvious. At least with my first few tests, the color change is very weak to the point where I have to look real hard to see it. Compared to the Salifert tests the change is much more subtle. The color change isn't so bad the kit is unusable, but it would be nice to have it a bit more obvious.
