View Full Version : February FRAG Meeting Announced
Xyzpdq0121 01-30-2008, 1:35 AM Ok, here it is... the moment you have been waiting for.... The event to end all events..... Without further adieu, I present to you the February FRAG EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!! *Applause* :yay:
That is right, this is our biggest meeting of the year. The meeting full of friends, laughter, and FREE frags. That is right, I said FREE FRAGS! More importantly, Philip Root will be joining us this year to hold fragging demos on a number of different corals and maybe even a BTA this year. That is right, learn to hack up your very own RBTA. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 12th starting at 7:00pm. (Note the earlier start time) The location for this month will be at Steve Shindell's office. If you want to arrive early to trade frags and equipment, you are more then welcome to, this is after all the frag meeting.
So what corals are going to be fragged?!? Well I am glad you asked... Because I am not going to tell you. I will release that info slowly over time. Trust me... It is some really cool stuff.
Alright, Alright, I will give you a hint. In addition to taking a knife to a BTA, How about some rare Pavona (http://www.asira.org/pavona) corals for y'all to take home? Bet ya don't have one of those now do ya?!? See, you wanna come now don't ya? I will let on a bit more as the event grows closer.

BeesBaby 01-30-2008, 8:56 AM Hey shoot me a line if you want me to bring a colony donation to the meeting.
/donny
By all means bring a colony donation - it will definately be readily accepted.
Shoot, I could use a colony of some type of coral in my tank, for it is bare nil - only has a little GSP, a nice size Kenyan tree, and I just got two small mushrooms. Would you consider donating it to me??? :)

Daniel emerich
Xyzpdq0121 02-01-2008, 1:53 AM Daniel,
To become a member, you have to click here (http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/arcsignup.php) and sign up as a member. There is a membership due of $30. You can also sign up at the meeting but it is usually quicker and easier to do it before the meeting. We would love to have you there, member or not. Traditionally, free frags are reserved for members only. This year we might do that a bit differently but I do not have an official comment on that just yet. ;)

Members will get more.
I am dodging this meeting because of the craziness. I might help with the frag and bag if you do it before the meeting and need some help though.
FutureInterest 02-02-2008, 1:52 AM I call dibs on the undata and sunset monti.
Budsreef 02-04-2008, 2:04 PM Brandon, do we have a plan yet for the coral I'm donating? The rock is about 12" long and 6" wide in the middle so there is a lot there to frag. Shoot me a PM if you want to discuss it.
bigjosh 02-04-2008, 2:22 PM Looking forward to my first meeting. Me and my wife will be driving up that afternoon.
LiveRock27 02-04-2008, 2:38 PM If we told you we could bring some of the equipment you needed for the meeting what time do you want us to get there? Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I am going to make an announcement about that by Wednesday once I know the complete shcedule for the meeting area and the events. Sit thight... ;)
puttyman 02-05-2008, 4:36 PM Would it be appropriate for an absolute beginner to show up? Right now I have a 29g planted and have been planning a larger fw planted. Recently though I have been spending some time on reef central and have been thinking about going sw instead.
So would it be ok for a total newb who doesn't even have a sw tank yet show up and ask a bunch of dumb questions?

Most definately Okay! We always welcome guests and visitors alike. Besides, the meetings are really cool and allow you to meet other reefers and ask all and any questions you may like. Shoot, I attended two meetings before getting my tank as well.
^tyrant^ 02-06-2008, 5:36 PM I have got my membership card yet, i can pick it up at the meeting right?
Xyzpdq0121 02-06-2008, 5:47 PM I have got my membership card yet, i can pick it up at the meeting right?
Should be able to. PM Beesbaby and make sure it is ready from our last card order.
Xyzpdq0121 02-06-2008, 10:16 PM So I thought that I would release a picture of a coral (since Jin guessed what I was getting in). I will release a picture every day or so fo you to "Ohh" and "Ahhh" over. Enjoy!
Xyzpdq0121 02-06-2008, 10:38 PM Ok maybe one or two more pictures since I can not keep a secret.
ericmcj31 02-06-2008, 10:40 PM nice, can't wait!
Sprayin70 02-07-2008, 12:50 AM WOW i'm really impressed! Great job everyone. Can't wait to see everyone at the meeting.
Xyzpdq0121 02-07-2008, 2:18 AM WOW i'm really impressed! Great job everyone. Can't wait to see everyone at the meeting.
Since that impressed you and since you are a part of the sun coral rescue squad....
How about we chop up this guy too.. He is a nice little Duncan coral. Brother in law to your Dentros and Suns but much easier to keep.
Sprayin70 02-07-2008, 2:33 AM LOL. Mr Duncan looks sweet too. This is going to be a great frag meeting. I hope everyone is grateful for theses nice corals.
Thanks
Xyzpdq0121 02-07-2008, 10:24 AM We also have some GREAT Raffle items too... So bring your cash and win some great stuff!
glxtrix 02-07-2008, 10:30 AM niiiice! I's need some of that monti!
Sprayin70 02-07-2008, 11:16 AM I agree that monti would make a great addition to both the 140 and 120. LOL
Thanks again everyone.
FutureInterest 02-07-2008, 11:20 AM Um. Wow. I may just have to sign baby Sophie up as member. She's loving those corals.
What's the attendance record for a frag swap?
SShindell 02-07-2008, 11:49 AM The attendence the last two years has been around 120-140.
Sprayin70 02-07-2008, 12:05 PM The attendence the last two years has been around 120-140.
I agree. It was a mad house last year. I ran around helping until Midnight w/ AJ and a few others. Any volunteers will have their work cut out for them. Since I am a glutton for punishment I may be helping again this year.
Xyzpdq0121 02-07-2008, 12:45 PM Ya, I hope to set the attendance record for a meeting this year. We are going to TRY to make this year not nearly as much of a mad house. We are hoping to have all the coral fragged ahead of time (Other then what Philip is going to demonstrate on), We are getting helpers there at about 3:30 to help get things set up, We are going to be using both rooms this year... So if all goes well, we can process and handle around 200 people.
We tried to get corals that would get new people and old people BOTH excited about the meeting. There will be some high end corals there as well as some beginner corals. It has cost the club a lot to get these things, but y'all are well worth it! ;) This year will be a bit different in format but I think it will give everyone a fair shot at quality frags.
It has been A LOT of planning and A LOT of work. The list of thank yous will be longer then I think I can type. But, I think this meeting will go down as one of the highlights of this year. And if it does not go down as planned... I blame Panda, Chrisjet and Todd. I do not know why I blame the last two, but I am sure that they had something to do with this thing if I can not pull it off! ;)
Oh Ya, This year non-members will be able to walk away with a little gift from the club too thanks to the donations from our wonderful members...
Xyzpdq0121 02-07-2008, 12:50 PM Oh and since y'all have been so welcoming of the last pictures, I figured that I would post two more to round out the set and to give you choices over the other monti posted and the other zoas...
FutureInterest 02-07-2008, 3:25 PM Yosh! Very pretty pretty rainbow montipora and shiny shiny fire and ice. Keep the pics coming! Very nice.
glxtrix 02-07-2008, 3:49 PM monti monti monti! Very nice!
Eddie B. 02-07-2008, 5:10 PM Great Corals You Guys!!!!!!!
reefage518 02-07-2008, 10:06 PM Hello, I just started my membership and I was wondering if I could go to the meeting on the 12th of February even if I haven't received my card yet. I recently set up a 24 gallon and could really use some advice and frags. haha.
Xyzpdq0121 02-07-2008, 11:14 PM Hello, I just started my membership and I was wondering if I could go to the meeting on the 12th of February even if I haven't received my card yet. I recently set up a 24 gallon and could really use some advice and frags. haha.

(this is my first meeting so I'm pretty excited)
Xyzpdq0121 02-08-2008, 9:19 AM If you are a full paid member, you can have any frag you want.... Pavona included.
Ummm... The "show" starts at 7:00. But you are more then welcome to show up any time after 3:30. I know myself, and a few helpers, will be there fragging and bagging corals starting about that time.
Barbara 02-08-2008, 10:03 AM Brandon, I love to see your excitement about this meeting. Keep up the good work! I am glad you are planning a little something for the non-members too. I wasn't a member at my first meeting, and some people gave me some frags. It was very encouraging to me, as I'm sure it will be to others.
reefage518 02-08-2008, 10:40 AM ok cool. i'll see you there then. thank you so much for your help
If you are a full paid member, you can have any frag you want...
I will take one of each, please. :D
reefage518 02-08-2008, 10:56 AM if i cant get my card could i just print out the paypal receipt and bring that as proof of membership? and does anyone know will it say im a member???

Xyzpdq0121 02-08-2008, 1:40 PM when it will say im a member i mean. like to the left there
How did you sign up?!? Via Paypal... If so, it should have put your symbol over there right away.
reefage518 02-08-2008, 2:02 PM yeah i paid with paypal last night, i got my receipt and everything... i dont know what the deal is
reefage518 02-08-2008, 2:14 PM i checked the paypal and it says its expected to go through on the 13th... so i dont think it will receive the payment until after the frag meeting. sooo can i bring my receipt for proof or membership or what?
Barbara 02-08-2008, 2:26 PM i checked the paypal and it says its expected to go through on the 13th... so i dont think it will receive the payment until after the frag meeting. sooo can i bring my receipt for proof or membership or what?
I remember seeing that happen to another person who signed up recently; (that they didn't see the ARC symbol by their name for a week or so). I don't know what caused it then either as mine showed up right away. I'm sure Brandon will accept your paypal receipt as proof of membership; the LFSs do.
reefage518 02-08-2008, 2:45 PM thank you! and i hope so! haha
AliKat 02-09-2008, 12:29 AM Oh, man! Why do you guys always have these meetings on my show nights? I swear I'll make it some time... Just p.o.'ed that I'm missing the frags!
M5AeroJD 02-09-2008, 11:36 AM A fiend of mine recently told me about ARC and that I should join up, I have never been to a frag swap before so I am really excited to meet a bunch of new people and learn some good stuff. I was wondering if I should bring some frags, all i have right now is some digi's and mushrooms:mad2:. Also I was wondering if anyone has some blue stags, pink mili's or bali slimers? I would LOVE a good frag from any of these and I would be more than willing to pay for them.
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/6441/img2638of1.jpg
Thanks so much!,
John
Xyzpdq0121 02-09-2008, 12:01 PM Wow nice tank John...
Ya you are more then welcome to come and more then welcome to bring any frags you have to trade. Your best bet would be to post here (http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=56) under a title like "Wanting to trade at Feb meeting" and list what you got (with pics, we like pics) and what you are looking for. From there, I am sure you will get alot of trades.
I want to follow Linda's directions about nametags but can't seem to find her email address. I don't think its in her post. I can find her webpage, her IM address, but not her email address. How do I go about finding that? Could send her a PM, but she said not to do that either.
Thanks
Never mind, I figured it out. Overlooked it on her profile.
Mockery 02-11-2008, 9:39 PM Do we need to reserve a spot cause if so i'll be there! and is it possible for me to become a full member there or is it only done online??
SShindell 02-11-2008, 9:43 PM Just come! You can register on line or at the door, but to avoid a line, I would do it online and bring your receipt.
LorenK 02-11-2008, 10:23 PM Are those all the pics?
Xyzpdq0121 02-12-2008, 12:16 AM Yep, The rest I am saving for tomorrow.. ;)
bigjosh 02-12-2008, 10:25 AM It's tommorow, pics please!!!
Derek_S 02-12-2008, 11:07 AM This will be my first meeting as well. I'm pretty excited, as I just found you guys today, and I already get to check it out tonight. I look forward to joining (WOOT student discount).
Anybody know what the discounts are for Cappuccino Bay? I'm there all the time ;)

Mockery 02-12-2008, 11:46 PM WOW i got home from the meeting and wow i got some great corals for next to nothing!! I have a question though the little peices of frag i got tonight can i anchor them to a peice of rubble rock since they are so small?
Sprayin70 02-13-2008, 2:42 AM Yes you can. Just be careful not to get to much glue on the tissue. Also, make sure it's super glue gel.
Derek_S 02-13-2008, 8:40 AM WOW i got home from the meeting and wow i got some great corals for next to nothing!!
:w00t:I agree. Very good 'first meeting' for me, and some sweet freebies. I even had an additional freebie... a little aiptasia anemone!!!
I wonder what CORAL RX would do to it....?

That musta been a mistake....we usually charge extra for the Aptasia's!
bigjosh 02-13-2008, 10:23 AM Had a great time at the meeting and enjoyed the free goodies. I even won the reef booster kit!!!!!!! but unfortunately on my way home last night I was cut off by someone and ended up hydroplaning and then rolled my car onto the roof. I was not hurt but lost all my frags!!!! My refractometer and the reffboster survived. I will post pics of the carnage later.:mad2: :mad2: :mad2:
Gwhiz 02-13-2008, 10:25 AM I'm glad that you're okay! The frags can be replaced...
Derek_S 02-13-2008, 11:00 AM Wow, terrible. Whereabout did it happen? Was it one of our friendly, courteous ATL area road-mates? I got cut of by a benz who interpreted a yield sign as meaning "rapidly accelerate without looking".
bigjosh 02-13-2008, 11:24 AM Just south of Newnan between exit 47 and 41 on 85.
Sprayin70 02-13-2008, 12:46 PM WOW. Glad your alright!
reefage518 02-13-2008, 2:05 PM wow! thats pretty rough. but like the rest of us, im really glad your ok.
and on a less important note, i got a superman about the size of my fingernail, and was wondering if the white parts will fill out from inside the rock or will i have to wait for the polyps to encrust the rock?
ckwatson 02-13-2008, 4:04 PM Does any one know if the club go a copy of the slide show, and when it will be up. Also what where the two kinds of pavona that they fraged?

I am so sorry to hear this...but am glad that you are all right and not hurt.
