'Twas. I had to tear it all out 4 times to catch a mantis shrimp, too. I finally found his rock and dropped it in a 20g species only tank. The little jerk had taken his crushed snail shells and wedged them in the holes he created to hide. It took a flathead to pry them out to find him. He would pop the shells out when it was time to hunt.

They're a lot of fun. Just give him a porous rock and feed him something meaty. Krill worked really well for me. Don't let them train you though- I had to teach mine to come out for krll. If I became impatient, or stuck the krill to far in his hole he would grab it without me seeing him eat.
