I know we periodically test our tank water with hydrometers or refractometers, but how about our source water or our purified water?
I’d like to do an informal study on the total dissolved solids (TDS) of our water sources and our purified RO/DI water, while also testing our TDS meters.
Everyone can easily participate in this study.
Objective:
1) To learn how varied our freshwater TDS levels are in North Georgia,
2) To learn the TDS level of our purified water whether by Reverse Osmosis (RO) or by Reverse Osmosis/Deionization (RO/DI) and
3) How well do our TDS meters compare to the others used in the club.
Three simple things you need to do to participate:
1. Please collect 12 to 16 ounces of your:
A) tap water as well as
B) RO or RO/DI water.
2. Please label both of your containers with masking tape and write
A) your Last Name and Alias,
B) the town and county where this water was taken
C) the source of your fresh water supply (e.g., Smyrna well water, Cobb County municipal water, etc.) and
D) the type of water in the container (i.e., tap, RO, or RO/DI).
Step 3. (Optional) Please bring your TDS meter (with your name written on it in indelible ink).
At the meeting, we will organize the testing of all of the water samples and collect the data.
The results should be interesting and will be published here.
